She really just wanted comfort.

To chase away her fears.

To feel a sense of safety.

To think.

To kiss.

But not to fuck.

A shame, really. He’d wanted to teach her a lesson. However, it seemed she didn’t require one because she already knew they weren’t ready.

The past still lurked heavily between them.

A problem to resolve once they’d both caught their breath and slept a bit.

After all, Leela had just recovered from being shot, helping Lizzie give birth, and misting them all over the globe.

She’d earned a temporary reprieve from this game.

For tonight, Balthazar decided.

He pressed his lips to hers, his hand remaining on her hip while his opposite palm went to her nape. Then he walked her backward into her room and guided her to the bed.

Tonight, they would rest.

Tomorrow, the real challenge would begin.

Chapter10

Stas

Stas staredup at the dark sky, her lips pursed to the side. “I don’t see anything other than the moon and the stars.”

Perhaps it was the exhaustion of the last few days, but she couldn’t find anything that resembled ethereal energy above her.

Yet her mother was adamant that it existed.

Issac stood with them, a mug of coffee in his hand. Stas had finished two of those before leaving B’s house thirty minutes ago.

After returning from Iceland, she and Issac had decided to rest despite the morning hour. And they hadn’t woken up until nearly six in the evening, thus impacting their entire sleep schedule.

Fortunately, according to her mother, the wards were easier to work on at night.

Because they were supposedly easier to see.

A fact Stas was currently proving to be a lie, as she couldn’t see a damn thing.

It was a beautiful night.

Just not sparkling with ethereal energy like she’d anticipated.

I don’t see it either, Issac murmured into her mind. But that doesn’t mean much.He took another sip of his coffee, his opposite hand tucked into the pocket of his black jeans. Stas rather liked the casual clothes he chose to wear in Hydria. They were still expensive and of a designer variety, but they gave him a sort of soft appeal that made him more approachable.

His sapphire irises left the sky to meet her roaming gaze, his dark eyebrow inching upward.Searching for signs of my ethereal energy, darling?

No. Just admiring the view, she replied.
