He caught it and volleyed it back.
She repeated the action.
And their bout of dodgeball turned into baseball.
Or football.
Or whatever the fuck it was called for Seraphim.
“Try adding your energy to it,” he said as he tossed it back to her.
“Right now, I’m focused on not letting you burn me.”
“I wasn’t burning you. That tingling sensation is your ethereal energy reacting to the familiarity of mine. We’re blood kin, not enemies.”
“Could have fooled me,” she muttered as she caught his sphere for the tenth or eleventh time. She attempted to infuse her own essence into it.
And cursed as the ball diffused to nothing but air.
Stark didn’t give her a moment to complain. He merely volleyed another orb at her head.
She ducked, then twisted to avoid the second one, and cried out as the third one met her shoulder blades. He was throwing them harder and faster now, pushing her as he always did.
I’m—
She misted behind him.
Going—
She shot upward to avoid his too-accurate throw. The bastard knew exactly how to anticipate her now.
To—
She misted again, attempting to throw him off his game.
Kill—
Fuck! The fiery energy he unleashed tangled in her feathers, dislodging her balance and sending her downward.
Her mother snapped something in her wake, but the wind rushing in her ears drowned out the noise.
Stas misted in response, landing beside Issac with a furious curse. “I’m going to kill him!” she shouted.
“Not in that state, you’re not,” her brother responded as he appeared in front of her.
She leapt toward him, ready to unleash hell with her fists.
But a ball of sparkling energy formed instead.
And sailed right for his head.
He barely ducked in time, the surprise in his features almost comical.
However, she didn’t take a moment to enjoy it. Instead, she threw another one at him. And another. And another. Lighting up the air with flames of fury as she chased him down the beach. “How do you like it?” she yelled at him, her desire to kill him a stamp on her spirit.
But a shimmer of diamonds at her feet gave her pause.
The black sand beach was littered with translucent crystals, all of them glittering in the moonlight in all shades of colors.
