A new Divinity.

I woketo the feeling of fingers combing through my feathers. The sensation calmed me, allowing me to feign a few extra moments of sleep while processing the last few days of healing.

I remembered everything now.

And I was over a day late on Mietek’s deadline.

Fate must have intervened, as her mate hadn’t shown up to chastise me yet. But I assumed he would be here soon. We’d been in Heaven for five days now. Maybe four and a half, close to five.

I’d slept for the first two days.

Then spent the last two and a half days fucking Kayla between naps.

I was curled around her with her back to my chest. She was using my arm as a pillow and my wing as a blanket. We’d created a nest of a sort out of my wings, and she seemed very content to remain there.

Hence the fingers stroking through my plumes.

I sighed, feeling more at ease than I could ever remember.

The return of my wings had hurt in a beautiful way because it’d meant I was truly healing.

And Kayla had taken care of me through the agonizing procedure.

She’d noticed my wince as the regeneration progress had begun and had proceeded to distract me with her mouth. It’d given a whole new meaning to pleasure and pain. I’d come down her throat on a groan that bellowed through the heavens, then I’d returned the favor while my spine had burned with divine intensity.

An intoxicating experience.

One I would cherish for the rest of my existence.

Just like this experience of waking up with her in my arms and wings.

I nuzzled her neck, gently nipping her languid pulse. She shivered in response, then tilted her head back toward me for a kiss. My palm went to her cheek, cradling her face as I indulged her with my tongue.

She groaned, rolling toward me to press her breasts to my chest, her thighs automatically wrapping around my hips.

I wanted to wake up to this every day for the rest of my existence. Her—naked, needy, wet.

Her arousal met mine, her slick heat a welcome kiss against my hard shaft.

However, the flutter of wings kept me from entering her. Because they were wings that didn’t belong to me.

Instead, I swathed her with my feathers, hiding her body from view, and glared over my shoulder at the male now standing in my bedroom. “I’m starting to remember why I prefer my home between the realms.”

“It’s been destroyed,” Mietek retorted flatly.

Kayla froze beneath me, her fingers tightening in my hair. She must not have sensed the Archangel’s arrival. Knowing she’d been lost to my touch was a nice ego stroke. But rather than comment on it, I arched a brow at Mietek. “Have you arrived to tell me I’ve been replaced by Dariel?”

He grunted. “No. I’ve arrived to let you know four Earth years have passed, almost five, and Zerak says the balance will fail in just over three Earth years.”

Which meant our original timeline after Kristina’s death of nine Earth years had been reduced by one. Considering all that had happened, I was relieved to hear we hadn’t lost more time.

“Scion joined Azrael to help the Dark Provenance prepare for the inevitable. But it also served as a way to evaluate the Nephilim and search for Kristina’s assassin. Unfortunately, they haven’t found anything, and Azrael had to return to Heaven today to help bolster Raphaela’s waning strength.”

That was a lot of information in a few short sentences. But I focused on the last one most. “Because she had to heal me?” I guessed.
