The female narrowed her eyes at me, then snorted. “Good luck. If we can’t find it, then I highly doubt a scrawny Halfling like you can.”

That made my teeth grind together.

Scrawny Halfling? Really?

A Centaur pawed the ground a few feet away, just behind one of the lava pits.

Then it walked right through the fiery liquid without even flinching.

Fuck, these Centaurs are intense.

Queen Bitch turned toward him, a weapon falling into her hand as she analyzed his trajectory. Without the lava pit, he had a straight path toward us.

Well, us and another group of girls.

However, that group was quite different from theElites—whatever the fuckthatmeant—as they all wore the white T-shirt and black pants uniform, and they didn’t appear to have any weapons.

They also looked terrified.

There was a clear divide here between those prepared for the trial and those just trying to survive.

Queen Bitch led the group of “prepared” members, something she proved now by pulling an object from her bag to toss near the other group of women.

A loud pop exploded, earning the Centaur’s attention.

My lips parted.Did that bitch really just intentionally use other candidates as a shield?

“Come on, Feyre,” Queen Bitch snapped. “Let’s find the trick to this trial. You take the south. I’ll take the north.”

Feyre frowned at the group of females now cornered by the salivating Centaur and a lava pit. They were huddling together, true fear etched into their expressions.

“Feyre,” Queen Bitch growled.

A single glance toward me held all the information I needed to know about Feyre.

She didn’t like Queen Bitch any more than I did, but for some baffling reason, she tucked her chin to her chest and headed in the direction that I assumed was south.

A scream distracted me as the Centaur impaled one of the brides, making my blood boil.

I’m not getting involved.

I’m not going to do it.

Hell Fae Rule #6: Only Look Out for Yourself—No One Else.

I gritted my teeth as I repeated the rule three more times. Then I slipped around Queen Bitch, dipped my hand into her bag, and took one of the bombs.

Another girl screamed, causing my jaw to clench.

Yeah, fuck the rules,I thought, throwing the device at the ground near my feet.

“What the hell?!” Queen Bitch screeched as the blast redirected a herd of Centaurs straight toward us.

Shoving my way through the Elites, I left their screams in my wake as the Centaurs plowed onward without mercy.Right over the lava pit.

All of these Centaurs possessed black auras, their red eyes gleaming with madness with those shadows distorting their other features. And their horns were stained with blood.

The shimmering magic in the air made me wonder if this was all a mirage.
