He was ensuring Raven could save him.

And he had her and Layla protected as well.

Or is that Layla?I wondered, confused by the power rippling off her.Or is it some sort of combination from both of them?

Because the power had erupted when Layla had shouted for the guards to back off.

Or was I misremembering that detail?

I took in my mate, noting the way she hovered over Ketos, clearly needing him to survive.

Because all of this was meant to kill him.

He’s a threat.

I glanced toward the window again, that ominous presence beating at my instincts.

He’s a threat to whatever that is.

Which meant we needed him to live.

And Iston…to die.

My feathers twitched, my razors ready to play.

“I’m going to need that energy field to lower now,” I said conversationally.

And I wasn’t sure if the words were for Layla or for Ketos.

Regardless, I felt the hum of power setting me free.

I smiled, then sliced through the first wave of mindless guards beating against Layla’s shield.

Less than a minute had passed since I’d hit the wall, my mind having processed everything swiftly thanks to the few seconds reprieve.

Which left me with a lot of beings to kill as my cousins were busy working through the other half of the room.

I growled at the guards, my thirst for blood awakening as I painted the walls red.

Such a beautiful color.

Normally I preferred a challenge, but right now, I was too pissed off to beg for a fight.

So I simplyslayed.

Because I’d been bespelled. Drugged. Tricked.

Blew off my commander’s warnings.

Foughthim.

All because I had beenmanipulated.

The price for that was blood.

Death.

Screams.
