My wings launched down to slice off his hand. He screamed, and then I wrapped my fingers around his throat andsqueezed.

Growling, I dropped the dead weight and ripped the dagger from his severed hand. Then I stabbed him in the eye with it.

Sorin bounded past me and shot an approaching Noir in the face, sending blood splattering all over the cracking walls.

My evaluation on guns shifted slightly.

Cheap, but effective,I mused as Sorin nodded at me before returning to the kitchen, trusting me to take care of the rest.

I made my way to the end of the hall, cutting through the guards until there was no one left.

I’d destroyed everyone in my path.

To protect Layla.

While fighting to reach Auric.

Only, when I completed my murderous path, I found myself in the living area.

And I had no idea where to go. Auric’s evergreen scent had all but dissipated.

There was no one.

No sign of a disturbance other than the continued rumble that echoed from outside.

No indication of life from any of the halls or open doorways.

And Auric…

My heart hammeredin my chest, the thudding echoing loudly in my ears.

Novak just killed a dozen guards.

A dozen fucking guards.

Without pause. Without hesitation. Without so much as batting a fucking eye.

I’d seen my cousin kill before, but this… this was a whole new level. A state of carnage unlike any I’d ever witnessed. Cold. Calculating.Death.

And it left me feeling relieved. Everything had changed in an instant, the world suddenly clear again. Partially from Raven’s healing influence, but also because of Novak’s lethality.

And Ketos…
