“What did you do to me?” I whispered, trembling as power thrummed through my veins. “What is this magic?”
But of course Melek didn’t reply.
He was already gone.
At least he’d helped me figure out what had happened.
Unfortunately, that didn’t make me all that confident in my future. If anything, it left me more uneasy than ever before.
I touched the Hell Fae Source.
Lucifer’ssource.
Yeah, I’m definitely a dead fae…
CHAPTER9
MELEK
The momentI set foot in the palace, I knew something was wrong.Ty?
I’m in the council chamber,he answered shortly.
Frowning, I unfurled my wings and teleported toward his location. I didn’t usually engage in my ethereal abilities around others, as I reserved that secret for those I felt intimately connected to, so I chose to land just outside the door.
Chaos greeted me as I entered, several screens fired up to display an array of Nightmare Fae Kings and their stern expressions.
Typhos was in the middle of speaking to King Neptune from the Underwater Kingdom, his voice carrying throughout the room. “Have you found the power source?”
“Not yet,” King Neptune replied, his vibrant blue eyes a stark contrast against his long, dark hair. “But we’ve managed to put a temporary plug in it.”
“How long will it hold?”
The godlike king shook his head, causing his mane to wave around him like black water. “I’m not sure. Maybe an hour. Hopefully longer.”
Typhos nodded. “That’ll be enough time.” He shifted his attention to King Pyre. “Gather as many Ruby Dragons as you can and head toward the Underwater Kingdom.”
“Yes, my liege.”
Ty addressed King Lazuli next, his boxy face resembling a boulder more than a human. “I need you to gather your Boggarts and compile as many stones as possible.”
King Lazuli dipped his square chin. “Of course, my king.” The words resembled gravel, which was appropriate given his species.
King Horus’s gold eyes lit up the screen as Ty turned to him and said, “Send your Griffins to the Boggarts to collect rocks and meet King Pyre’s dragons on the shores of the Underwater Kingdom.”
“Consider it done, my liege,” he replied, his silky tones sounding flirtatious, but that was just his usual voice.
“I’ll be there within the hour to enchant the seal and replace the core,” Typhos informed them. “As for the rest of you, scour your kingdoms for potential breaches and report back any inconsistencies you can find.”
A chorus of “Yes, my liege” and “Yes, my king” followed.
Typhos nodded and ended all the calls at once. His shoulders sagged the moment they were disconnected, his head falling forward and causing his long hair to cascade over him like a dark waterfall.
I’d been so caught up in Cami that I hadn’t felt the panic radiating from my mate, but I sensed it now, the cacophony resembling a beating drum against my heart.
“Ty…” I walked around to his front and palmed his cheeks, lifting his troubled gaze to mine. “The source?” I asked, not needing to voice a full question. He’d understand.
He shook his head. “No, I don’t sense any dark strands or visible tampering.” He pressed his forehead to mine, seeming to need my comfort more than ever. “But another portal has been opened. This time in the Underwater Kingdom, specifically in the middle of a Sapphire Dragon nest.”
