Likely the most powerful fae in all the realms.

And I’d just presented myself as… what had Ajax called me again?

Right—ademented flamingo.

“Great job, Cami,” I grumbled to myself as I towel-dried my hair.

Then there was the other issue of what the book had shown Lucifer.

Very, very disturbing images,I thought.

The back of my mind echoed a different choice of words.

Very, verydelicious, too.

“Focus,” I hissed at myself as I slung my used towel into a black hamper. It vanished in a puff of smoke.

It would probably be better if I just erased the book’s images from my head because none of that was happening.

Instead, I’d concentrate on the task at hand. Which, right now, was to wear more than a robe. Fortunately, I had a whole closet to choose from.

That’s a nice change from having all my outfits chosen for me,I thought, entering the walk-in closet. I took my time running my fingers over the various choices.

They were all tight-fitting, and apparently I was only allowed to choose something black, red, or a mixture of the two—but for the most part, there were enough options to suit my tastes.

Picking a red top, I pulled the strapless midriff over my head.

Black leather pants came on next. I’d prefer jeans, but there didn’t appear to be any. Besides, the leather felt nice against my bare skin.

Rather than put on shoes, I went barefoot, tied my hair into a ponytail, made sure my necklace was still on, and headed back out to the living room.

Fortunately, Lucifer hadn’t spontaneously returned in my absence. Not that I’d expected him to, but with the way he’d surprised me earlier, I couldn’t be sure.

I just met the Hell Fae King,I marveled again. And he didn’t try to kill me.

Instead, he’d told Ajax to “properly school” me on the Hell Fae. I wasn’t sure what that order really meant, but being trained as a Hell Fae didn’t sound much better than being trained as a Hell Fae Bride.

Rather than ask about it, I looked at Ajax and said, “Um, so, that went… well?”

He grunted in reply. “He didn’t kill you, so yes.”

I winced. “Nor you.”

“Nor me,” he agreed. “Instead, he wants me to teach you. But I want to finish eating and take a shower first.”

We’d both spent most of the last fifteen hours asleep, so that didn’t surprise me. It’d been the first thing I’d done upon waking up.

Then I’d walked out to find Lucifer in the living room.

And… my brain had immediately died, taking my sanity and pride with it.

Ajax stood, leaving his half-eaten breakfast on the table. I wasn’t sure how or when he’d made that, but I assumed magic was involved.

He returned with a tray and handed it to me. “It’s nothing special, just some eggs and bacon. If you want something else, let me know and I’ll conjure it.”

“Um, thanks.” I gave him a half smile and joined him on the couch. There was cutlery and a glass of orange juice along with the food he’d mentioned. However, he appeared to be drinking a Bloody Mary, which I assumed was actually just blood.

Because he’s a Midnight Fae. Right.
