“It’s more of a burgundy color with a gold tie,” Bane adds. “But he’s right—it’s terrible.”
“Now I want to see it,” I say, waggling my brows. “Maybe I’ll think you’re sexy in it.”
Kaspian snorts. “You would find me sexy in anything I choose to wear, Fallon.”
I can’t stop the laugh from escaping me. “Someone has quite the ego.”
“Someone has more than earned his ego,” Kaspian returns, stepping closer to me. “Besides, I’m all about truths, love. And we both know I’m right—you can’t resist me.” That last part is a whisper against my mouth, his boldness and confidence making my knees go weak.
Ihatethat he can do this to me.
But I also love it.
“I could,” I reply to him softly. “But why would I ever want to?” I go onto my toes to kiss him, but he catches my hip and holds me in place.
“You need a token, Fallon. Something you can wear that says you’re part of Gold and Garnet.” His tone holds a sternness to it that is the epitome of regal Kaspian.
“What kind of token do you want me to have?” I ask him, unsure of what I would choose.
“This,” he says, his hand—the one he’s kept behind his back since he entered the room—moves between us to reveal a tiny black box.
I frown at it. “What is it?”
“Open it and find out,” he says, holding it out for me.
My throat feels a little tight as I take the item from him, my heart skipping a beat in my chest. He brought me a token.
It’s probably similar to what he gave Issy and Ayla—a charm for them to wear on a necklace or a bracelet.
Except I quickly realize that’snotthe case as I open the box.
It’s not a charm at all.
It’s a ring.
My lips part at the beautiful token, my eyes zeroing in on the yellow gemstone framed by garnet accents and set in a solid gold band. “Kaspian…” I look up at him.
Only, he’s no longer standing.
He’s kneeling.
And he’s not alone.
All four of my mates are now kneeling around me, their gazes reverent.
“The heart of Gold and Garnet revolves around our fealty pledge,” Kaspian explains to me. “We’re a House of mercenaries where fortune and prestige are two of our most important qualities. But it’s the fealty we pledge to each other—to our House—that matters most.”
I swallow, my head dipping in understanding. He mentioned some of this to Issy and Ayla.
“That said, I don’t want you to pledge your fealty to Gold and Garnet, Fallon.” Kaspian’s words have my eyes widening. But he doesn’t give me a chance to ask for clarification. “I want to pledge my fealty toyou.”
My lips part, his words shocking me silent.
“You’re our mate,” Nox adds.
“Our heart,” Bane murmurs.
“Our queen,” Nolan says.
