I considered it for a moment, wondering if Zenaida had predicted something I should be concerned about, but I was too exhausted to wonder what that might be.

It’s been a long fucking day.

I took off my shirt, shoes, and socks and collapsed onto the couch. While the bed was more than big enough for Cami and me to share, I didn’t want to risk upsetting her by making assumptions.

Especially since she was still pissed at me.

Not wanting to think about that, I opted to memorize the incantation from Zenaida instead. If the old Fortune Fae wanted me to know this spell, there was a reason for it.

With that thought in mind, I uttered a perimeter enchantment, one meant to wake me in case anyone entered the room without my permission. Then I slid the card into my pocket.

This will have to do for now.

Cami needed rest and so did I. We would figure out a battle plan when we woke up.

Assuming she stuck around long enough for us to talk.

I pulled out my wand to alter the incantation to also wake me up if anyone left the room.Just in case…

CHAPTER9

CAMI

Stop that,I thought, squirming.Leave me alone.

I swatted at my arm, but the creeping sensation continued to crawl over my skin.

Fucking ant.I swiped at it again, only for several more to appear. Or that was the way it felt, anyway.

Growling, I smacked the bugs, determined to make them disappear. I was too exhausted for this bullshit. Too depleted.Too…I frowned.Too cold…

My brow furrowed, the temperature one I hadn’t felt since…Since the day Ajax and Az tied me to a chair in the Midnight Fae Realm.

I shot upward, my eyes wide as I took in my surroundings, my mind half expecting to see a familiar dungeon covered in writhing snakes.

Except… that wasn’t what I saw at all.

Instead, I was surrounded by silk and floral-patterned sheets, as well as a room that looked like it had furniture growing out of the ground itself.

I blinked.Where the hell am I?

This definitely wasn’t Lucifer’s palace.

However, it seemed certain things had followed me from said palace.

Things like the smug-looking Melek lounging beside me in the foreign bed.

His eyes dropped to my breasts before he popped a grape into my open mouth. “Good morning, angel. Lovely to see you.”

My lips curled down again as I followed his gaze.Shit. I snatched up a blanket to cover my nude state, only to remember that he’d seen me in those chains…yesterday? The day before? Hours ago?

Hell, I had no idea.

Regardless, this wasn’t a new view for him.

Andthatpissed me right off.

Crushing the grape with my molars, I reluctantly forced the sweet morsel down my throat. Its vibrant flavor and juice hit the spot perfectly. I had to admit I was parched, andhungry.
