It might be a step in the right direction, but he still had a few miles of hiking ahead of him before I’d even consider forgiving him.

Although, his lack of cryptic commentary was another positive move forward.

“My aim is unity, little angel. A stronger future. To become impenetrable and indestructible in the eyes of our enemies,” he said, ruining everything I’d just thought.

Because there went thelack of cryptic commentary.

“That tells me absolutely nothing, Melek.” It was just a bunch of fancy words that made no sense whatsoever.Whose enemies? Mine? Yours? And what’s this talk about unity and stronger futures?

“Perhaps it tells you everything, but you’re not understanding all the pieces yet.” He ran his fingers through his hair, the movement one that seemed almost uncharacteristic. Like he was stressed and trying to find the right words.

How very unlike Melek.

“I know you’re mad, angel. You should be. Ty is trying to control you so he can better control his response to you. Keep fighting him. It’s what you both need.”

“Maybe what I need is to have nothing to do with him or you,” I countered. “Maybe I need to have nothing to do withanyof you.”

“If only that were an option, little angel,” he replied with a sigh. “But the book chose you, which means, on some level, Ty’s soul has marked you. None of us were ever given a choice in the events that followed.”

If I had known that, I would never have picked up the damn book in the library.

“The only one who wasn’t given a choice in this was me, the Hell Fae Bride captive,” I said. “A consequence of a deal my father struck with the devil. Everything since that day hasn’t beenby choice.”

“Back to that again, hmm?”

“It’s all true,” I retorted.

“Hmm, well, I think you’ve made plenty of choices, Cami,” he murmured, his gaze knowing. “Plenty ofpleasurabledecisions, to be precise.”

My lips parted. “Excuse me?”

“You heard me just fine, little angel.” Some of that playfulness entered his gaze again as a pile of golden dust formed in his palm. “Unfortunately, however, I don’t have time to continue this chat.”

He blew the powder into my face in the next instant, making me cough. “What the fuck?”

“See you soon, little angel,” he whispered, his lips suddenly against my ear. I flinched as his mouth brushed my temple. “Try not to kill Az when he shows up.”

Then he disappeared in a wink, leaving me covered in his golden essence.

“Melek,” I snarled, my hands wiping futilely at my face. I didn’t need a mirror to see that he’d just saturated my skin in shimmering sparkles.

A curse from the living area followed as Ajax jumped to his feet, his wand at the ready and his gaze flying around the room as though searching for a threat.

He paused when his focus landed on me in the bed.

Both of his eyebrows shot upward, probably at the sight of my glittering skin.

Fuck, it was on my shoulders and neck, too.And my breasts, I realized, looking down.

Because I’d lost hold of the sheet when I’d started frantically wiping at my face. The fabric had been tucked under my arms while I ate, and now… yeah, now it was pooled at my waist.

Fuck it,I thought.Fuck all of this.

What did my nudity matter now anyway? Between the interrogation and the chain dress and now this… it just didn’t matter.

So why not have sparkly boobs?

Ugh!
