Does that mean I can potentially break the hold this spell has on me? Or is it because he doesn’t fully understand what he’s done?

“I’m not sure,” he replied to Cami, essentially confirming my last question—he doesn’t fully grasp the severity of this spell.

Which meant he hadn’t intended to hurt me this way.

Or perhaps he had meant to hurt me in this way but hadn’t realized how effective it would be.

“Um, what now, then?” Cami asked, her expression wary.

“I’m not sure,” he repeated, walking toward me.

My Phoenix instantly looked away from him, submitting to the one with authority in the room. It was a trained reaction from centuries of abuse by the one who used to wield that spell.

It was a reaction I’d thought I’d broken.

Just like this nightmare was one I’d thought I’d removed from my mind.

But the enchantment brought it all back with a vengeance.Fucking Zenaida. What have you done?

Ajax crouched. My Phoenix didn’t look up at him, remaining submissive in fear of being commanded again. The incantation fuckinghurt. “It seems to have pushed Az into the background and let his Phoenix out.” He waved his wand into my vision as he said, “Sit.”

My jaw clenched inside as my Phoenix shifted back tosit, just like Ajax had commanded us to.

The obedient effect took me back to a time when this had been my life. When I’d had no sense of free will. Where every move I’d made had been at the sharp instruction of a cruel Virtuous Fae.

Her visage appeared in my mind, her cruel gray eyes glittering with venom. Her long, inky black hair framing her elegantly beautiful face.

She was stunning.

A female many fae craved and envied at the same time.

But I’d been all too familiar with the coldness of her heart.

And, in time, Typhos had also become acquainted with her cruelty and the pain she’d caused others. Himself included.

Betrayal hummed through my blood as Ajax chuckled. “It seems he’ll do whatever I say, too.”

“Like go back to the Hell Fae realm and leave us alone?” Cami asked.

“Maybe.” Ajax seemed to hesitate. “But the spell might wear off if he leaves. Then we won’t have the element of surprise for when he returns.”

“True.” Cami’s bare feet whispered across the floor as she started to pace. “So what do we do?”

“I don’t know,” Ajax replied, sounding conflicted. “I can dress him in chains and put him in a cage, if you want.”

Cami paused midstride. “That is a very tempting offer.”

“If I forced him back into human form, we could make him wrap a chain around his cock, too,” Ajax added, the sinister quality of his proposal causing me to flinch inside. “Similar to what Lucifer did to you.”

And that part made me wince.

Because he wasn’t wrong.

Typhos’s chains had been designed with the purpose of inducing Cami’s arousal.

I supposed doing the same to me would only be fair, in terms of revenge.

But like this?I thought, swallowing once more.Under the weight of my past? Using a spell that removes my free will and leaves both me and my Phoenix helpless?
