I gritted my teeth.Don’t do that.
I sense panic,Az said.
Are you okay?Ajax inquired at almost the same time.
I pressed my palms to my ears, protecting my hearing from Aflora’s whistle while also trying to shove both of the male voices out of my head.I’m. Fine.Or I would be if the noise would go the fuck away.
What’s happening?Az demanded.
Where are you?Ajax echoed.
Seriously? I’m. Fine.
But of course they didn’t listen.
Because Ajax brought Az—still in Phoenix form—and both of them appeared in the courtyard in the next breath.
Followed immediately by Shade and Kols.
I shook my head.Un-fucking-believable.
I opened my mouth to comment onoverprotective males, when a snarl sounded from the peach trees ahead, causing my eyebrows to lift.
Aflora didn’t appear all that bothered, but both Kols and Shade took a step backward to flank her while Az and Ajax did the same to me.
What the hell was that?I wondered.
No idea,Az replied, his beast releasing a low warning snarl.
A wand appeared in Aflora’s hand, similar to what Ajax had done a few times in my presence now.So Midnight Fae conjure their wands?I asked him. Or maybe I was askingthem. I still wasn’t sure how this telepathic link thing worked.
Yes,they both replied in unison.
Can you hear each other when you’re talking to me?I wondered, thinking that maybe we were just in some sort of mate-circle now in my mind.
No,they echoed, making me frown.
Right.I really needed to figure this out. And soon.
But the hissing whirling through the air definitely took precedence.
Aflora stepped forward as a fiery ball appeared, the violent sphere bouncing in a chaotic zigzag along a path between two trees.
Kols cursed.
Shade smirked.
And Aflora whistled once more.
I winced, then gaped as a large black dragon appeared with a tongue lolling from the side of its snout, its gaze hyper-focused on thefireball.
Oh,I thought, that word becoming an ingrained part of my vocabulary. That must be the fireball Aflora mentioned earlier.
She mentioned a fireball?Ajax asked at the same time Az inquired,What fireball?
I think Shade conjured it and threw it out the window forDragonyato chase. And I’m guessing that dragon isDragonya. Not exactly an original name, but it somehow seemed to fit the creature with wide wings lumbering toward us.
Aflora sprang into action, stepping between the dragon and the fireball, her arms folding in a motherly manner. “Stop,” she demanded.
