I shivered, my thighs clenching at the thought of everything he’d done to me and everything he could still do.

Alas, he merely straightened and gave my back a little nudge as the doors opened to reveal an opulent lobby. The three-story room was decorated with windows, allowing the moon to bathe the red-and-black interior in warm rays of subtle light.

Candles flickered everywhere, adding to the romantic ambience.

And only a trio of vampires seemed to be working the floor. They greeted us as we entered, their positions behind a long desk suggesting they were receptionists.

One stepped forward to bow her head slightly at Cam. “Your party is waiting for you in the Lake View Conference Room. Allow me to escort you.”

Cam said nothing, just waited for the redhead to move.

Once she did, we followed with Keys trailing in the rear again.

The conference room in question was just off of the reception area, the large space looking more appropriate for a gala rather than a small meeting.

However, it seemedour partyconsisted of over a dozen people. Some of them I knew. Others I’d only heard about through Luka.

Damien reacted to our entry first, his golden irises finding mine as he moved across the room to yank me away from Cam.

My mate growled internally but remained stoic on the outside.

It’s fine,I told him as I returned my twin’s hug. He made me feel small with his over-six-foot height and strong arms, his genetics favoring our father rather than our mother.

Looking at us, no one would even guess we were related.

His hair was dark, whereas mine resembled sunshine. My eyes were green; his were gold. I was shorter and slender, while he possessed the body of a professional athlete with his large biceps and thick thighs.

He and Ryder would be a better match in terms of relation, the two of them rivaling one another in size and hair.

Except Ryder’s eyes glittered like obsidian diamonds—especially right now as he prowled toward us.

I learned long ago that a silent Ryder was never a good sign.

However, Cam stood his ground as Ryder moved into his personal space, my mate merely arching a brow.

“Are you all right?” Damien asked me.

“I’m fine.” I wasn’t, actually. But he didn’t need to know that.

Unfortunately, he seemed to sense the truth anyway because his eyes narrowed before he shifted his attention to Cam. “What the fuck were you thinking?” he demanded.

“Damien. I’m fine,” I repeated.

But he ignored me, instead asking, “Are you happy with how all this turned out?”

“He doesn’t look very happy,” Ryder inserted conversationally. “Still looks smug as fuck, though.”

“Seriously. I’m fine. Leave him alone.”

But, of course, Damien continued to ignore me. Ryder, too, as they started bantering about Cam and his arrogant decisions.

They were pissed that Cam had abandoned me, and felt a need to make that known.

I was the sister they needed to protect. And while they’d both provided me with ample lessons on how to physically defend myself, they’d never actually allowed me to try.

Forever my protectors.

But right now, I didn’t need them to protect me from Cam. I needed them tolisten.
