With another growl, I pushed away from her and the bed.Fuck this. I needed relief, and I clearly wasn’t going to get it from her.

A blood virgin, then,I decided, wincing a little at the memory of how that plan had gone the other day. All I’d wanted was fucking Ismerelda.

Well, I didn’t want her now.

So I’d try again.

And if that didn’t fucking work, I’d go for a run or beat someone up, or do something other than sit here and fret overdisturbing scents.

I bent to grab my discarded shirt and headed out of the door, determined to forget the still-frozen female on the bed. She could die, for all I cared.

She means nothing to me,I vowed, ignoring the snarl inside me that vehemently disagreed with that statement.

This need to devour her came from that dark part of me, which made me wonder if that had been the real reason for my choosing to bond myself to her. Perhaps she had been the only one who could sate my inner predator.

I wouldn’t know now since apparentlyfearwasn’t my preferred flavor for her.

Stop. Thinking.

I ran my fingers through my hair and left my room in a burst of speed, unused to this sense of instability.I’m a king. The eldest of vampire kind. The mastermind of the alliance. And I can’t tame my feelings for one bloody human?

My teeth ground together in frustration as I finally pulled on my shirt. I didn’t bother with the buttons. They would take too long. Just like I’d left my belt behind.

Did I lock her door?I wondered.Does it even fucking matter? Where’s she going to go?

If she managed to escape, someone would just drag her back to my quarters.

Or they’d lock her in a cell until my return.

Whatever.

She could rot there.

Fucking pain in my ass.

This was why my kind needed immortal blood bags. TheErositabond was dangerous, as proved by the current of confusion flooding my veins now.

I can’t let anyone see me like this.

But of course Michael was waiting by the elevator bay as I approached.

“You can provide me with an update when I return,” I told him as I punched in the code to leave.

“Of course, my liege. Where will you be in the interim?”

I nearly growled at the intrusive question—I was the king here; why did I have to answer to him?—but a glance at his inquisitive features had me grating out, “Playing with blood virgins.”Or sparring with some of their guards, I added mentally. If they can even keep up.

Michael’s lips twitched in response. “Enjoy, my liege.”

I won’t,I thought as I stepped into the elevator. Rather than say anything in response at all, I pressed the requisite buttons and stared over his blond head as the doors closed.

This female is a problem,I decided.A distraction I don’t need. Once I get a handle on these asinine reactions, I’ll end her.

Then everything could proceed as planned.

And a new reign would officially begin—my reign.
