Cane pressed a finger to his ear, the concealed technology reminding me of the silent device in my own ear. “Take Khalid to suite seven,” he said. “The slayer can go to dungeon three.” He glanced at Cam. “I’ll give you a proper tour of the area once we’re done.”

“How much of the compound have I actually seen?” my mate asked.

“Approximately half. Your elevator was originally programmed to only display certain floors. Once we’re done determining our future, we’ll reprogram your access.”

Cam stared at him. “What is there to determine?”

“Where you want to stay.” Cane finally looked at me, his hard gaze glittering with dark anticipation. “Whoyou’ll stay with.” He returned his attention to Cam. “She just needs to live for you to maintain access to her mind. Nothing more.”

Cam’s palm slid up my leg, his fingertips brushing my inner thigh. “Oh, there’s definitely more, brother.” His tone and action made his insinuation clear.

“Hmm, but that more can evolve, and that’s when things become dangerous. Perhaps I should demonstrate.”

That sounded ominous.

But Cam simply cocked his brow. “Isn’t that the point of all this? To provide a demonstration?”

Cane grinned. “Indeed it is. And on that note…” He called forward one of the surveillance feeds, this one showcasing only one heat signature.

A heat signature that the system identified as Cedric, according to the profile hovering beside it.

“Seems he’s heading to the airport,” Cane mused. “Must be expecting company.”

“Or maybe he’s trying to reach Damien,” Cam replied.

“Perhaps.” He studied the video for a moment. “We’ll deal with him in a bit.”

“Is that what you said when I left?” Cam asked him. “That you’d handle me later? Because obviously you could have stopped me before I reached the city’s perimeter, and likely even then.”

“Yes, I could have, but I hadn’t realized you’d left until you were already acquiring a car. This system only activates when we’re expecting a security threat. That protocol wasn’t engaged when you left.”

“And if it had been engaged?” Cam pressed. “What threat level am I noted as? Lethal force? Neutralize on sight?”

Cane scoffed at that and clicked his device. “Show King Cam’s profile,” he instructed the system.

“King Cam’s profile,” the feminine voice replied. “Status: administrator. Authorization: full system access.”

Cam scrutinized the information. “So you would have let me leave.”

“Of course.”

“Yet you kidnapped myErositato force my return.” Cam’s flat tone masked his agitation. “Seems extreme.”

“Some might consider it a valuable test.”

Cam grunted. “To what? See if I’m cured or not?”

“Yes.” Cane brought up the third feed showing two other heat signatures. “And I’m going to demonstrate why.”

CHAPTER FIFTY-NINE

CAM

I drewmy thumb along Ismerelda’s inner thigh as I observed my brother’s presentation.

Ryder and Willow.

They’d scaled the side of a building near the compound and appeared to be engaged in some sort of sniper lesson.
