Izzy,I breathed, phasing to the doorway of a room boasting a sight that stole all the breath from my lungs.

I fell to my knees.

My gun dropping to the floor.

Oh, Ismerelda…

I couldn’t speak.

I couldn’t move.

I could hardly think.

There was just one thought rolling through my mind. One that held me captive on the ground. A realization that made my heart fucking stop.

I didn’t make it in time…

CHAPTER SIXTY-FOUR

IZZY

A Few Minutes Earlier

Cam!I screamed, my hands caught beneath one of Michael’s palms.

I’m coming!he shouted back at me.Don’t stop fighting!

I squirmed, my lower half pinned by Michael’s, his groin pressing against mine.

“I hope you’ve said goodbye, little blood whore,” he said, his sinister gaze making me want to vomit. I almost wished he would have knocked the glasses off my face during the skirmish so I didn’t have to look at him.

Yet I could see him clearly.

Every dangerousinchof him.

Cam,I said, my voice coming out on a sob. Because there was nothing else I could do.I can’t?—

Michael cursed as something slammed into his head, the unexpected impact causing my mind to blank. Because I wasn’t quite sure I’d seen that correctly.

Am I dreaming?

Am I already dead?

Did Lily really just…?

“Fuck!” Michael cursed as she hit him again with what appeared to be a metal pole.

I scrambled backward as he released me, his attention on Lily as he charged her.

Only for a gunshot to stop him in midstep.

And send him to the ground.

Where he lay on his side. Lifeless. Mouth parted. Blood beginning to ooze between his unfocused eyes.

I gaped at the doorway as Mira entered, her gaze narrowed on Michael’s body. “A shot to the head isn’t going to permanently kill him,” she said. “You need to slice off his head.”

I blinked, my brain struggling to process everything that was happening. “I… what?”
