But it’d been too long since I’d experienced the pleasures of a female, ofmyfemale, and the control I’d had over my beast had snapped the moment I’d entered her mouth. I’d needed to brand her from the inside out, pour my essence inside her and demand that she take everything I had to give.

Which she had.

“Because you’re perfect,” I mused aloud. “That’s why I’ve kept you.” The fact that she could handle my brand of brutality again and again. “A true lioness.”

I pulled my wrist away from her mouth, certain that I’d given her more than enough blood to speed along her recovery.

“Sleep,” I murmured, my command lulling her into a deeper state of unconsciousness.

I’d purposely kept her on the edge of awareness to ensure she’d swallow my essence without choking, but now I wanted her to truly rest.

At least until my blood did its job.

After that, I’d fuck her again.

And again.

Until she couldn’t walk.

Sliding from the mess of blankets, I wandered over to the kitchen area to pour myself a drink. The red wine lacked Ismerelda’s special touch, causing me to glance back at her on the bed.

I’d manufactured a room just for her, and yet I had no desire to demand that she use it. Strange how a day could change myperspective. But she looked good in my sheets, her blonde hair strewn over the black fabric, her creamy complexion blushing with the effects of my blood.

Mmm, good enough to eat,I thought, admiring her exposed breasts.Heal faster, little lioness. I’m hungry for?—

A knock echoed through the living space, the source coming from my front door.

My lips curled down at the intrusion. I’d been very clear with Michael—no disruptions. So either my progeny possessed a death wish or someone else had decided to brave my presence.

Setting my wine down, I wandered back toward the bed to retrieve my boxers from the floor and put them on. Then I pulled the blanket up over Ismerelda’s breasts, not wanting anyone else to enjoy the view.

As I started toward the door, my nose twitched with the familiar scent of the female waiting in the hallway.

Not Michael.

But I wasn’t sure if the intruder lingering was much better.

I opened the door to reveal Mira. My eyebrow arched in question, my mouth flat. I’d told her not to follow up with me until she had a new security plan in place to guarantee that the Blessed Ones couldn’t escape.

And I highly doubted that plan was already enacted.

I leaned against the door and folded my arms, my stance making it clear that Mira wasn’t invited inside.

“I’m sorry to bother you, my liege,” she began. “But we need to discuss the meeting Lilith scheduled. It’s in three days, and, to be blunt, my king, we’re not ready to address the alliance. Not with all the security issues and connectivity problems.”

Well, at least she’d gotten straight to the point of this interruption. “I assume you have a suggestion?”

“I do, yes. I think you should pre-record an announcement regarding your return and let the alliance know we’rerescheduling the meeting to next week. I’ll personally take that message to Lilith City, where it can be disseminated to the alliance.”

“I see.” I considered her for a moment, her logic not quite computing in my mind. “Is there a plan in place to fix our current security concerns?”

Because I highly doubted that had been accomplished in the last few hours.

Hell, they probably hadn’t even finished catching everyone who had escaped during the blackout. And even if they had completed that part, they would still be busy trying to resecure them all.

Mira’s jaw ticked. “No, my liege. There are no protocols in place for this failure, as it wasn’t anticipated by the previous management.”

“You mean Lilith.”
