Alora sipped her tea, intrigued. “What did he say?”
“He didn’t. He plucked it back. So I snatched one of his earrings.” Lennox lifted Mrs. Flops onto her lap, nuzzling into the rabbit’s soft, white fur. “That,he didn’t like. He shouted at me.”
Alora scowled at once. “Heshoutedat you? Whatever for?”
“Because he’s an impulsive thief who can’t handle the taste of his own medicine.”
“But he seems so even-tempered… And he’s a healer.”
“Oh, he makes a great first impression with his pretty smiles and prettier words. Just wait until you have something he wants.”
Alora blinked at the bitterness in her best friend’s tone. “How long ago was this?”
“A year.”
“Did he apologize or explain?”
“Yes. And no.”
“So you’ve hated him all this time?”
“Wouldn’t you? If he stole your rabbit?”
Alora huffed a laugh. “Mrs. Flops? She’s the most precious thing I have.”
Lennox nodded in vindication. She fed the creature her bloom. “Precisely.”
