“Find out what?” he asked, the curiosity sprouting from a simple question. His eyes glowed in his bid to find answers.

“Everything.” I shook my head, knocking my knuckles against the table hard enough to hurt, and I earned a miffed glance from the lady in a booth near ours. “You came with me because you wanted to get to know me better, right? Well, all my fucking dirty secrets will come to light soon.”

“From other people?” He leaned forward and grabbed my hand, linking our fingers. The brownness of his gaze was sharp and bright all at once, a fierceness swirling in the depths of his irises. “I don’t want to hear it from them. I want to know what happened from you.”

“You’re not going to,” I snapped, ripping my hand away from his. “What do you want from me, Loki?” Lowering my voice, I leaned toward him. “You got my cock, my mouth, you’re even the only one who’s allowed to call me by my real name—outside of this place. I can’t give you anything else. We’re nothing more than friends with benefits.”

Hurt flashed across his face and his jaw tightened. “I don’t believe that. If that was true, you wouldn’t have risked fucking me. It would have been easy for you to find any cut slut to take your cock,Tobias. You choose me at the risk of Odin finding out because you want me in every way possible.” He smirked. “I’m not going anywhere. I’ll get the truth out of you eventually. I don’t care how long it takes.”

My gut churned and it wasn’t in fear or guilt, but something deeper I couldn’t explain. The thing I liked about Loki was that he put his entire soul into everything he did. There was no half-assed attempts from him.

I smiled. “You’re frustrating.”

“And hot, too.” He winked at me. “So… corned beef hash with scrambled eggs at this time of night? They better be good. At least you got fries, too.”

I laughed. “They are, trust me. Nobody can make hash with eggs like Jalen. If I could only eat one thing for the rest of my life, it’d be that. But only made by him. It’ll give you a foodgasm.”

“And here I was expecting another type of orgasm tonight,” he mumbled, making me laugh harder.

“You will, as soon as we get to the motel. We need to eat to give us the energy.” I grabbed his hand and raised it to my lips, laying a kiss on the heel of his palm. “You’ll need it, baby. I’m going to fuck that hole the entire night until you hear Mrs. Mulberry’s roosters in the morning.”

He blinked, grinning. “That was sexy to hear until you got to the end. Now I’m just curious. What’s the story with that?”

I laughed again and gave his hand one more kiss before I rested it on the table. “Mrs. Mulberry’s an old lady in town whoeveryoneknows. She has roosters that can wake up the whole damn town, so when her neighbors started complaining, she decided the best idea was to walk her roosters away from her house.”

“Walk… the roosters?” His confusion only made my laughter become uncontrollable, and it took me a moment to be able to breathe to continue the story.

“Yeah. They were basically her kids. She walked them every morning, so she wasn’t just waking up her neighbors, she woke the entire fucking town.” I wiped at the tears in my eyes and homesickness swelled inside me. As much as this place caused me pain, it was stillhome, the town I’d been raised in and where I’d had my first kiss and where I’d had the bestest of friends I could find. Until it all went to hell with that accident. One wrong decision had destroyed a lot of lives. The thought sobered me. “Let’s just say everyone in Wittstock knows her and her damn roosters.”

“What would happen if they end up dead?” he asked casually with a small smirk. “I hate mornings.”

I rolled my eyes and lowered my voice. “Loki, you kill without remorse, and that’s fucking hot, but I know for a fact you won’t hurt an animal. Remember when Rig threatened to kill the dog next door? You told every hang around—”

“Cut slut. I hate it when you call them hang around.”

“That he had a small dick and sounded like a whale when he came. He didn’t get laid for a month.”

Loki’s face lit up, eyes twinkling. “It was fun seeing him try to get into their pants. He even flashed them his cock, and they still wouldn’t touch him.”

“Well, everyone believes you. You’re toosweetto lie to them.”

“A bunch of gullible idiots,” he said with a grin.

That wasn’t true. Even the wisest people believed everything Loki said. He could tell them the grass was blue and they’d be inclined to agree. He was a bright light in a shadow of darkness, and most, especially our enemies, didn’t expect how much of a sadistic bastard he was.

Marion headed toward us with glasses of soda in her hand and carefully placed them on the table. “I hope you like Coke. I got you some drinks, on the house.”

“You didn’t have to,” I said, smiling anyway.

She winked at me. “Honey, you’re one of my favorites, and I’m just glad to see you again. It’s been too long. And this guy here is an absolute cutie.” She patted Loki on the head like he was a dog, and I expected him to hate it, but to my surprise, he gave her a winning smile and leaned into her.

“Thank you, Marion. I’d love to come in here one day for you to divulge all of Thor’s adventures as a teenager.”

She giggled—actuallygiggled. I’d never heard that sound from her in my life. Her cheeks blazed pink. “Aren’t you just the sweetest? I’ll tell you anything you want to know.”

Yep, story of Loki’s life. He had a silver tongue.

“As long as you tell me how this boy here came up with the nicknameThor? What a weird name.” She frowned at me and placed her hands on her hips. “Isn’t he that comic book hero that the girls swoon about? Although….” She stepped back and gave me a long look over. “Youdolook a bit like that actor who plays him.”
