“I already know most of your secrets now,Tobias.” I licked my lips and slid my gaze down his muscular body, hidden beneath that sexy as hell suit that I wanted to strip him out of. “You can’t escape me anymore. I have you right where I want you.”
“Are you fucking serious?” Felix yelled, shaking off Dana, who tried to touch him again. “I have a gun, and you’re flirting with each other?”
I laughed, loud in the dead quietness of the graveyard. Pun not intended, or maybe it was. “You think a….” I leaned over to check it out. “What is that? A Beretta? You think that would scare us, buddy? We’ve faced off with cartels, mob bosses, and men with death wishes, who had automatic rifles and machine guns. We’re not scared ofthatpuny thing. If that’s representation of your cock, I feel sorry for Dana.”
Thor stepped forward, and he and Felix faced off. Dana sidled away, eyes teary and bottom lip stuck out in concern. Their guns were level, but Thor stood taller, his bulk wider and stance more confident than Felix’s. “Put the gun down. Don’t be a fucking idiot, here of all places. You can point that thing at me all you want, you can threaten to kill me, you can even put a bullet in my gut, but what I won’t fucking allow is for you to hurt Loki. He’s mine, Felix, and I’ll destroy you before you ever hit that trigger in his direction.”
I slapped my hand on my chest and grinned at Jeanie. “Your son is such a romantic. I’m going to marry him someday.”
She gave me a wide-eyed look in response, mouth parted as though she didn’t know what to make of the situation—ofme. She hadn’t met the real me until now.
Colonel pulled her closer to him, brows furrowed.
Felix hesitated, and the sound of whooping sirens in the distance finally had him lowering the Beretta. He dropped the gun on the ground, and Dana let out a cry of relief.
Thor lowered his gun as well, chin raised. “Good choice.”
“Here, catch.” I yanked out the pin and threw the grenade at Felix. It arced in the air, and he caught it, eyes wide, as he stumbled backward.
Screams echoed throughout the graveyard, and Colonel tugged Jeanie back. Thor moved with lightning speed, arms wrapping around me as he turned his back toward Felix, as though he was protecting me. The ticking of the grenade stopped and everyone held their breath.
Nothing happened.
I laughed, staring up into Thor’s deep blue eyes to see his genuine reaction. It would have been so easy to get lost in his gaze, and his heat enveloped me like a warm blanket. “Oops. Must have been a dummy.”
I knew it had been fake, of course, but that didn’t mean I didn’t enjoy the expression on Felix’s face. The prick deserved the fear, and the wide eyes were enough to nearly make me hard right here at a funeral. There was nothing more exhilarating than the terror of an enemy, especially one who dared to point a fucking gun at us. If I had been alive during the Viking era, I liked to think I would have made a spectacular warrior. Aberserker. Hell, I would have ruled over their lands and lived up to my name. I’d be more famous than Ragnar Lodbrok and his sons. But I kept that to myself. Thor would just tease the shit out of me for being geeky.
Thor slapped me on the ass hard enough that it hurt, and I let out a sharp breath. He glared, but there wasn’t any real anger. “I think it’s time for us to go.”
I pouted but agreed. As much as it had been fun learning about this other side of Thor, I also fucking loved the wild side of him. A few days in a boring place where nothing happened made me antsy, and I wanted to get out and throw arealgrenade.
Thor shot Felix a glare, and Felix backed off right as a cop car turned into the graveyard, the sirenswhoopingand the red and blue lights flashing and blinding us as it stopped right beside me and Thor. A thick wall of muscle, also known as a man, stepped out of the driver’s seat in his dark navy uniform with a utility belt attached to wide hips. The shiny name badge on his right chest pocket said his name was “Keller.” A police officer stepped out of the other side, but unlike her partner, she was short and demure with a dainty brown bob. Not the kind of cops we had at home.
Keller kept his hand on his gun as he walked toward us, his face masked from any emotion as he focused on Felix, then Thor and me. “Gentlemen.”
Thor grunted. “Keller.”
“Another one of your friends?” I whispered, smirking.
“Wouldn’t call him a friend,” he answered. His mouth twisted in disgust.
Colonel moved until he was at Thor’s side, his shoulders squared much like the way Thor usually did. “Keller, everything’s fine here. We’ve sorted out the problem.”
Keller glanced at his partner, who nodded. “We got calls about guns and grenades.”
“Grenade. Singular.” I flashed him a smile and held up one finger to him, which also happened to be the middle finger, backward.
Thor nudged me with his elbow, but I didn’t miss the sneaky smile he gave me. “Now’s not the time, Loki. We don’t want your ass in jail.”
He had a point. Odin wouldn’t let me live it down. He’d make sure I was punished for it, too.
Keller puffed out his chest. “Who is this?”
“He’s my partner.” Thor sidled closer to me. “Listen, Keller, this was a misunderstanding. Felix—” He waved his hand at the idiot. “—just thought I should know how he felt about Andy’s death. We had a heated conversation.”
“One that included guns and grenades?” Keller crossed his thick arms. He was a giant, even compared to Thor. It would take a strategic kick to his golden eggs to bring him down.
“Grenade,” I muttered, and Thor elbowed me, drawing a grunt out of me.
