“Your chariot awaits, milady!”
I grin and step onto the running board. Jason waits, standing between the door and my Jeep as I buckle in. After turning the key in the ignition, I lower the music and look back. “Thanks again for tonight.”
He shakes his head. “Thank you for letting me show you I can be a gentleman. But for the record? I don’t regret our first night together. It may not have been ideal in timing, but I’d do it all over again.” Jason leans forward and kisses my cheek before closing my door.
Pointing my Jeep toward home, I watch him walk to the last car in the lot. He looks over his shoulder, and I spot a smile before he turns away. Today went entirely differently than I expected.
His parting words play on repeat during my drive home. As out of character our first night had been for me, I think he’s right. I’d do it again.
Once I get home, I shower and prepare for bed. I find the latest romance I’m reading on the coffee table where I left it and crawl into bed. My phone vibrates on the night stand, and I set my bookmark before rolling over to grab it.
Jason: Sweet dreams…
A smile pulls my face tight, and butterflies take flight in my stomach at the words. They’re just two words which shouldn’t hold a lot of weight, and yet, now I know he’s still thinking of me.
Ava: Good night!
I stare at his words for a few more seconds and set the phone back on its charger. After opening the book to where I left off, I read the same paragraph multiple times. I close my eyes and take my fill of the memories we created tonight. Indulging in romance was a change of pace I’ll gladly accept.
Especially if it stars Jason as the considerate and desirable lead.
