“What are you—”

Just one taste was all he wanted. One taste and he’d walk away. One taste of his mate to prove it was all in his head and he’d tell Rafe to find someone else to babysit. Just thinking the words sent his wolf spiraling into madness. The thought of someone else watching over her, standing next to her, protecting her.

Oh. Fuck. No.

Mine!

Wade was nose to nose with Adalyn. The heat from her body enveloped his senses, her scent clouded his thoughts. His better judgment?

Ha!

No such thing existed in that small span of time. He leaned in closer, his lips hovered over hers. Odin, help him. He should back away.

Just one taste.

“Just one taste,”his wolf echoed his thought.

Still undecided, his mate stretched to her tiptoes and yanked on the front of his shirt, closing the distance between them.

His lips landed on hers. Any thought he’d had of being able to walk away, with his soul intact, vanished in an instant.

Wade’s arm wrapped around her waist. He pulled her close, needing to feel his body pressed against hers.

* * *

She’d had no idea what kissing Wade would feel like, but Adalyn knew she had to find out. She could easily sense his desire for her and wondered why he’d held back.To hell with customs, she’d thought. Tired of waiting around for him to make the first move, she yanked him forward. Curiosity had gotten the best of her.

When Adalyn gasped in surprise as her lips tentatively touched his, Wade deepened the kiss. What had started out, on her part, as a gentle curious meeting of the lips, quickly turned into her first passionate, toe-curling experience.

His tongue plunged into her mouth.

To her surprise, a husky moan leapt from her throat.

So damn good. She wanted more! So much more!

Heat she’d never felt tore through her veins, threatening to consume her entire body before settling between her legs. Her knees weakened, her legs turning to jelly. Any thought she’d had about walking away retreated post haste.

Her arms involuntarily wrapped around his neck, her fingers tunneling through his shaggy, blond hair.

What was happening to her?

The intensity of the kiss rocked her. Adalyn had never expected a lone kiss to light a fire in her body that she didn’t know how to contain or control. From the moment she’d seen him, he had made her want.

What?

She had no clue.

She’d lived a life of solitude and despair. Always wanting what she’d never known could exist in her own small world. She’d seen couples walking hand in hand. Spied a couple kissing here and there but had never held any thought of those kinds of things happening to her. There hadn’t been a single male who had ever shown interest in her, let alone affection toward her. After all, she was the freak among them. The dirty half-breed. Part witch, part wolf. A total disappointment to the entire coven. A thing to be shamed and cursed. And curses, she’d heard plenty. All through her life. Who in their right mind would have wanted her?

Walking through the forest, introducing herself in front of the pack, arguing with Rafe—it had taken all of her concentration, and then some, to keep her thoughts off of Wade. She’d cast a single glance in his direction, only to briskly look away. She couldn’t decipher the look he had given her. Had it been one of contempt? Like she’d been used to all of her life? Had it been shock? Or had there been something more?

Feeling his cock pressing up against her, she had to believe his earlier attention had been something more. His hand slipped beneath her sweater, his fingers caressing her lace covered breasts. She’d thought of stopping him, but every touch sent her soaring to new heights.

“I never thought the Fates would send me a mate,” Wade whispered in her ear as he kissed a trail from her ear down to her neck, then back up.

She tried to concentrate on what his words meant. It had to be something important, but she just couldn’t bring herself to care.

Not even a tiny bit.
