Chapter Eleven

Adalyn had worried about the hours of running with the partial pack by her side, that she would be sore, worn out even—but she felt the exact opposite. After switching back to human form, she’d felt stronger, more powerful than ever before. Even her witch felt like she had benefited from the shared power of the pack.

“It’s an odd feeling, but you’ll get used to it.” Erin was the first to approach her after the run.

“You think so? Honestly, I feel like I could run to Canada and back, and I probably wouldn’t even break a sweat. Is this normal?”

Adalyn had a hard time standing still. She felt twitchy. Tiny emerald sparks of majik jumped from her fingertips, ready to do something…anything.

“Yes, it is. I had my powers bound as a child to hide the fact that I was part witch from the wolves. When my mother unbound my majik, I felt like someone had hit the turbocharge button on me. What I didn’t expect was to feel my wolf’s essence and power had expanded tenfold. It was as if I suddenly had all this power and I had no idea what to do with it. I made quite the mess with a shit-ton of things around here. Thank the gods Rafe is a forgiving Alpha.”

“What do you mean? What happened?” What could Erin have possibly done that she had to seek Rafe’s forgiveness?

“Just remember, I was drunk on power—literally and tired of hiding who I really was. The only ones who knew I was part witch were my parents and Rafe. I had grown up thinking if the pack found out, they would burn me at the stake—especially after so many had died when your mother attacked.”

Adalyn flinched at Erin’s statement, but nodded for her to continue.

“Anyway, Lucas and I were having a few issues. He hated the fact that I was part witch, and I was tired of the way he was treating me—even though I’m his mate. One day, I’d had enough of his bullshit and exposed my powers to everyone, out in the open. Let me just say again, thank the gods for Rafe. He’s a skilled diplomat when it comes to dealing with everyone here at Black Paw. It took a little bit of time, but the pack finally accepted me and my mom. I don’t think they will have much of a problem with the fact that you are part witch like us.”

Adalyn had wondered if the pack would truly accept her, considering the fact that she wasn’t a full-blooded wolf.

“I wish my mother had been honest with me about her ties to this pack, but it really shouldn’t surprise me. She always has her own agenda. Even now, I have no idea what the hell she has up her sleeve. I’ll try to keep my powers in control. I’m pretty steady when it comes to the witch side of me. It’s the wolf I worry about, because I don’t know what to expect. Though she has been in my mind my whole life, this is the first time I’ve ever given her free rein.”

“You did really well today. Even with the shifts. Listen to your wolf and she will guide you when needed.”

“Thanks. I’ll try to keep that in mind.”

* * *

Adalyn had more to reflect about her situation than she ever had in her life. Her mind was crammed full of information about herself, her family, and Black Paw Pack. Too much information to process in less than twenty-four hours. Her brain felt like mush, yet her body was ready to go. She needed to calm the hell down. Take a Xanax or something. Too bad human drugs did nothing for her. She eyed up the shelf full of well-read paperbacks, not finding a damn thing that caught her interest.

“Where’s all the romance books at?” she asked her wolf.

“Like you need to read a steamy romance right now. All we have to do is close our eyes and dream of Wade. It’s like he stepped from the pages of your favorite books.”

Her wolf did have a point. Wade was hot enough to star in any number of romance books she’d read over the years. Body to die for, check. Arm porn, check. Tattoos that she wanted to get lost in, check. Perfectly kissable lips, check. Her list went on and on.

She sank back onto the too soft bed, intending to fall asleep thinking about Wade. Minutes passed, maybe hours. Wicked images bombarded her mind of all the ways they could please each other, surprising her and helping to pass the time. There hadn’t been a single male she’d ever wanted to kiss, let alone one Adalyn had considered giving herself to until she found herself at Black Paw Pack. Even if she had found someone within the coven who had sparked her interest, it wasn’t like she would have acted on those feelings. Not one male had ever looked at her the way Wade had. Before and after he’d kissed her. When she remembered the intensity of the desire she’d felt under his glance, it sent a shiver down her spine, making her want to feel the heat of his lips pressed against her once more.

A knock sounded at her door, pulling Adalyn from her memories. She jumped to answer it, stopping briefly to check her appearance. Funny, she didn’t remember changing out of her clothes and into the silky white robe that covered her.

“Who is it?” she whispered, glancing at the clock. It was well past midnight.

“Open the door, Adalyn.”

Shit! She wrapped the robe tighter around her body in a weak attempt at modesty, though she had just envisioned her caller in every possible sexual scenario under the sun.

“Wade? It’s late. What do you need?” Adalyn whispered as she cracked the door open.

“Everything. Anything. As long as you’re in my arms and my cock is buried deep inside of you.”

“I—uhh.”

Before she could finish her answer, Wade pushed his way through the door. His lips closed over hers.

So hot.

So wet.
