“There is no such thing as a coincidence,”Rafe said to his wolf.
“Agreed.”
Tanner and Erin materialized beside Rafe, quickly taking stock in the situation.
“Grace, what’s happening? Who is that other wolf?” Tanner asked.
“I don’t know. He just showed up,” she answered.
Tanner called on his majik, shifting into his animal form. He was easily twice the size of Rafe, with special powers of his own. Few in the pack knew of his abilities or the prophecy surrounding his birth, and that was fine by him. The fewer who knew about his majik, the better offensive advantages he had when it came to fighting.
The black wolf paused his advance and took a step back when he got a good look at Tanner. Another snarl, louder than the first, sprang from his mouth. He crouched into an attack position, ready to strike, despite the odds against him.
“I am so done with this shit today,” Erin said, stepping in front of both Rafe and Tanner.
Cerulean flames danced from her fingers. “If we’re going to do this, let’s do it,” she dared the rogue wolf.
A deep growl arose from the wolf’s chest. He took a step forward, then another. Each step drew him closer to Bjorn, the intended target, Erin guessed.
“Turn back now. You’ll never get anywhere near him. It’s the only warning I’m going to give you,” Erin said, readying to unleash a hell-storm of majik.
The wolf growled one last time before disappearing into a cloud of smoke.
“What the fuck?” Erin shouted.
“How on earth did he just disappear like that?” Grace asked, still crouched next to Bjorn.
“I have no idea,” she said, turning back to the group. “But what I do know is that it’s not safe here. We need to keep moving.”
Rafe and Tanner remained in wolf form, not trusting the situation. The rogue wolf could return at any time and they needed to be ready to defend the group.
“Finally!” Erin said as two blacked out SUVs turned the corner, heading in their direction.
