Nothing.

I try again.

Nothing.

One more time.

Dead red light.

The heat rises in my chest.I slam my palm against the keypad. Then my fist.Again.And again.

The steel doesn’t care.

My knuckles split, blood smearing over the surface.

Fuck.

I just left DNA all over his damned safe.

The realization makes my pulse spike.

Reyes played me.He sat there in that chair, wrists tied, sock in his mouth, and still found a way to twist the knife.

And I let him.

The images start flashing through my head.

Reyes laughing, thinking about how he’s still winning.

Reyes in Colombia, that smug grin on his face while Daniela?—

No.I shut it down before the rage eats me alive.

I’m going to make him regret it.

I press my forehead against the cool metal for a second, breathing hard. The safe is silent, but in my head it’s laughing at me.

I straighten, flex my sore hand, and leave the closet.

Back to the barn.

Back to Reyes.

I’ll drag the real code out of him one way or another. He’ll give it up.They always do.

I’m halfway down the stairs when my phone rings.

Falcon.

My gut reaction is to ignore it.Reyes is the priority. The sooner I get that code, the sooner I can get the evidence and end this.

But something stops me.

Guilt, sharp and sour.

I wasn’t there for Eagle the other night.I was too wrapped up in Daniela to see that my brother was circling the drain.

And now Falcon’s calling.
