Incident Report: Letters.Break-in.Attempted child abduction (foiled).No arrest.Escalation likely.

A glossy photo is clipped to the top.

Brown eyes, big and wary.Dark curls piled into a messy bun.Freckles dusting olive-toned skin.Soft lips.Smile uncertain, like she’s used to being let down.

She looks sweet.

Too sweet.

“This isn’t our usual clientele,” I say, voice low.

Remy nods.

“She’s not.But someone’s got a serious fixation, and she’s been under the radar too long.She reached out through a friend of a friend—someone we trust.”

I don’t ask who.Doesn’t matter.

What matters is that someone out there thinks a kindergarten teacher is worth stalking.

I close the file and stand.“I’ll take care of it.”

“She’s expecting you this afternoon,” Remy adds.“Try not to terrify her, yeah?”

“No promises,” I mutter.

But as I head for the elevator with the file tucked under my arm, I already know one thing for sure.

Sabrina Rosetto might look soft.
