“Hmm, you make a very compelling argument.” Mom turns back to the TV.

Penny, Vicky, Izzy, and Nat have all sent me pics from the party tonight at Sidney Brown’s house. The guys all look good in their party duds, sitting on a couch, holding court. Penny even sent a pic of a group of girls talking to them. Of course, she got the back of the girls and it’s dark, so I’m not sure who they are, but they might be some cheerleaders.

Eli texted me shortly after Penny sent her last update. So I’m pretty sure the guys are keeping it in their pants tonight. They assured me they could wait for me, which means I’m not getting out of this through that technicality.

The movie Mom and I have been meaning to watch is a zombie movie. But with the guys interrupting it, I’m losing some of the tension. Though I got into the movie over the past hour when no one texted to see if I was okay.

The guys are taking the prank from last night a little too seriously. It’s kind of sweet, but a bit much at the same time. I’m home safe and sound with my mom. What else could they want? Besides me there with them to torment?

This time, my phone goes off a few times before settling down. I look down and see they’re all from the group chat.

I lift my phone and don’t bother reading what they sent.

Me:

15 fucking minutes left in my movie. 15

After that, I’m all yours

PESTILENCE (Eli):

Promises, promises

My insides squeeze at his text. I set my phone on the coffee table face down and clutch a couch pillow to my chest. “No more interruptions. Let’s watch the end of this.”

Mom chuckles as she clicks Play again. The movie wraps up nicely. At least, some characters survived. After, I help Mom clean up our dishes.

“Go chat with whoever kept pulling your attention away from the movie.” Mom shoos me out of the kitchen.

“Fine, but I’m not using the condoms,” I throw over my shoulder as I grab my phone and head upstairs to my room.

“That’s not what they’re used for. Do I need to demonstrate on a banana?” Mom calls after me.

“No, please don’t ruin bananas for me.”

Her wicked laugh makes me smile.

When I open my bedroom door, I hear their voices. They wanted me to leave the webcam on even though they were all away. I step in and close the door behind me. They can’t see me yet, but they all pause talking at the click. I lean against the door and pull up their group chat from before.

FAMINE (Jack):

Come play with us, sweetheart

WAR (Caden):

My new game sucks *frowny face emoji*

DEATH (Luke):

We require entertainment

PESTILENCE (Eli):

Come dance for us

FAMINE (Jack):

I have the perfect song
