A few minutes later, I was pulling up to the bar. In pink neon letters was the name of the bar.

I opened my car door and headed inside. The music was blaring rock, and there were girls dancing up on the bar. I saw a lot of potential ass in here, but every time I tried to make myself think of fucking them, Nikola would flash in my mind. That was always the problem that kept me from pursuing anyone. The few times I had, guilt had plagued my thoughts for days.

I spotted Trigger across the bar at a table with two other ladies. It was obvious that everyone was on the prowl tonight, looking for one-night hook-ups. Lust filled the air as bodies ground against each other. Someone rubbed up against me. Nothing happened in response. I wasn’t interested. Hell, I feel like a pansy.

I walked up to the table. “Hey, man.”

Trigger looked like he had already been hitting the booze pretty hard. I only drank in moderation these days. I had learned the hard way that anything in excess led to trouble.

“Hey, Brandt. This is Amy and Lucy.”

They were both gorgeous. I tried to force my mind to get in the game. Nikki wasn’t an option, so I needed to make the most of what was left of my life—empty, meaningless sex. At least that’s what I told myself, even though I had only been with one person since Nikola.

Amy licked her lips, and I decided to go for her since Lucy already had her hand on Trigger. Amy had blonde hair and vivid blue eyes. She was wearing a tight black mini skirt with a sparkly blue halter top. Her nipples could be seen through the top. She would prove to be a good distraction—I hoped.

“What’s your poison, Amy?”

Amy walked closer to me. “Cranberry and vodka.”

“You got it.”

I signaled, and the waitress came to the table.

“Bud for me, cranberry and vodka for the lady.”

The waitress nodded and took off toward the bar.

Amy came up to me and put her lips to my ear. “How about you and I go somewhere to start the night off right before our drinks come back? There’s no room for me under the table. We’ll take turns getting each other off all night long while we ring in the New Year.”

She’s forward.

I looked toward Trigger as he gave me a wink and took a sip of his beer. I leaned over slightly, and I noticed that Lucy was underneath the table, giving him head.

Fuck.

The girls were horny tonight, that was for damn sure.

I looked at Amy, and I needed some space while I tried to push Nikola to the far recesses of my mind so I could do this. “Give me a minute. I’ll be back.” I pushed away from the table and headed up to the bar to intercept my beer.

She called after me, “Hurry back.”

I didn’t respond as I kept walking. There was a very good chance that I would leave and not come back to the table. I was messed up. I’d definitely be calling my sponsor to meet next week. I started walking toward the bar. I’d take a shot instead and then leave. The music rocked around me, and I just wanted to be alone in my home. I walked up to the bar.

The bartender came up to me.

“Shot of tequila.”

“You got it.”

She went to work, barely speaking, as the throng of people kept approaching the bar. The club was packed.

I pulled out a twenty and handed it to her. “Keep the change.”

“Thanks.” She stuffed it into her pocket and went to the next customer.

Someone pushed past me as I was about to down the shot.

“I’m so sorry. It’s packed.”

I froze.

That voice.

I turned and the auburn green-eyed goddess I had only dreamed about seeing was staring back at me. She had on leather pants with a low-scoop red shirt. I remembered how good those breasts felt in my hands that were outlined faintly by her shirt. At the sight of her, my cock was fully erect. I still wanted her. I still loved her.

“Nikola…”

“Brandt…”

Her eyes were searching mine, and I saw it, the flicker of emotion I had thought was dead between us. She still had some sort of feelings for me. I was sure of it. To what extent, was the question.

I set my shot glass back down on the counter. “How have you been?”

“Good. How have you been?” She swallowed hard.

I could feel something crackling between us.

Before I had a chance to respond, hands came around my waist. “I was missing you at our table. I think it’s time we found ourselves some privacy. I want you.”

Fucking hell.

Nikola started walking backward. “I can’t do this. I need to go.”

She turned and ran out into the sea of people.

I called after her, “It’s not what you think.”

Fuck.
