“I think,” he interrupted softly, “you can call me Laurent.”

A low chuckle followed, dark and sure of itself—like he’d already decided how the next few minutes would play out.

I was still mentally catching up while he reached for his waistband. That NDA. The specific NDA for working as his PA.

I’d read it several times before signing it in the presence of HR and legal.

No legal claims shall be brought against Mr Laurent Xavier Dubois by the undersigned.

Any attempt to disclose or malign Mr Dubois—whether regarding personal or professional matters—will result in immediate termination of employment and potential legal action.

“I don’t suffer fools gladly,” he murmured, settling on the edge of the bed.

“But something tells me you’re no fool. You were all over me tonight…”

He leaned in, breath warm at my ear. “Like a goodbreeding bitchshould be.”

Did he just say—?

I couldn’t think.

The air hit my skin like ice.

He’d pulled the covers down.

I was naked.

My mind went blank.

Chapter 13

Laurent

Her sharp inhale hissed through the silence as I pulled the covers down, unveiling my masterpiece.

I’d searched her room top to bottom—no sign of contraception. That didn’t guarantee anything, of course, but it narrowed the odds.

“Are you taking anything?” I asked, my voice slow, deliberate. “Contraception, Lucia?”

I dragged her name out.

Lucia.

The name that had kept me awake too many nights.

The name that haunted the corners of my office, taunting me from her empty desk chair, from every closed door she’d ever passed through.

The moon lit up half her face—just enough for me to see the shake of her head.

No words. Just confirmation of an advantageous edge for myself.

She’d thank me one day, when she looked down and saw the proof of my claim swelling beneath her ribs.

I reached for the lamp, switching it on so she could see how serious I was. She blinked, her blue eyes wide, scanning the room until they found it.

“Oh God,” she whimpered.

“Yes,” I said with a smile. “When your body screams for more… I’ll have the proof.”
