“Yeah, go someplace. Have dinner. Talk.”

The music boomed louder. A knot twisted in my stomach. I glanced over to Kurt. The waitress was leaning over, showing her ample breasts. They laughed together. The sickening feeling intensified. I needed to get out of there. The room felt like it was closing in on me. If he walked away with her, I would lose it. “I’ll go for coffee. I think I saw a place around the corner.”

Chapter Fifteen

Kurt

Motherfucker.

I wanted to pummel his ass for showing up when he did. If I’d only had two more minutes, I would have asked Sawyer to leave with me so we could work this out. I’m a pansy ass. Things had been going well between Sawyer and me. It was easy with no pressure. I had planned to talk to her that night. Then she talked about not wearing anything underneath that dress. My dick had done all the thinking after that.

Fuck. Fuck. Fuck.

The last thing I wanted was a repeat of what had happened before. This time, I wanted things to be different. Maybe find a middle ground. Fucking her against the wall outside the restroom was not different. That’s what we did before, which led to an entire week of taking her everywhere we went.

In the end, I knew I had no right. After all, I insisted on just being roommates. Dammit. But I wanted her all to myself.

When I turned back around, she was gone.

Shit.

I scanned the room.

“You know I don’t like to get involved, but if you don’t go after her, you’ll regret it.”

I looked at Edge, who’d come to stand beside me. “Don’t make the same mistake I did. You’ll spend the rest of your life wishing you could replay that one moment.”

I set my jaw. “She has to make her decision. There’s a history there with him.”

“Does she know how you feel?”

I locked my jaw, not answering and taking another drink of my water. Of course, the bastard kept on talking. “From what I can see, that girl is crazy about you. Funny as shit. Puts up with nothing. A real ballbuster.”

Grinding my teeth, I gripped the glass so tight I thought it might break.

“Don’t let your pride or principles stop you.”

I said nothing.

“Imagine if they do hook up. You going to be able to handle him coming over? Going to her room with her at night? They sure as shit won’t be crocheting blankets when they go to bed.”

I seethed at his words. “Shut the fuck up.”

“Good talk. Enjoy being miserable.”

Edge walked off to join the other guys as well as a few women who had joined the group. Without thinking, I pulled out my phone and dialed Sawyer, praying she’d pick up.

Chapter Sixteen

Sawyer

We’d cleared the club doors and were out on the street where a line wrapped around the building. Jordan placed his hand on my lower back as we walked, but I took a step to the side to break the connection. “So, earlier when you texted me you were in Flagstaff?”

“Yes, I wanted to see you. Talk things out.”

Things needed to get cleared up between Jordan and me. I wasn?

?t in a place to date anyone at the moment. And I needed to get my head sorted out. Maybe tonight I could ride in the last bus with the crew. “Listen, Jordan, I—” My phone rang. It was Kurt. “I need to get this.” I pressed Accept. “Hello?”
