“Do you think someone else is involved?” Kurt’s question brought the unease back in full force.

Joe remained unreadable, listening but not giving anything away.

After a second, Steve said, “Jennifer seemed isolated, and we haven’t found traces of anyone else assisting her. But I want to make sure.”

There seemed to be something holding him back. Obviously, Kurt sensed it, too. “Why aren’t you convinced?”

“I have nothing to go on but my gut. And that says there’s more.”

There was more. My eyes shot to Kurt and then Joe. “There’s someone else involved?”

Joe replied, “I think after what we found with Navarro’s deceptions, we want to be overly cautious.”

That made me feel minutely better. At least the super crazy lady was off the streets.

Kurt picked up his phone. “Thanks, Steve. Keep in touch.”

“Will do, sir.”

Kurt ended the call and immediately dialed another number as he moved his head from side to side, cracking his neck.

“Waldo, get the lawyer on the phone. They caught her. And I want to make sure she is prosecuted to the fullest extent. Yes. I want bail to be denied. She’s doing as well as can be expected. George is good, too.”

I chimed in, “Oh, Waldo, I knew you had a soft spot for George. I’m thinking we need to make you his godfather. He’ll be your dog child.”

Kurt chuckled. “Thanks, Waldo.” He hung up and released a huge breath.

Joe gathered his things. “I’ll be coordinating with the team and will keep you updated on anything else I find.”

“Thanks, Joe,” Kurt and I said.

When we were alone, Kurt locked the door and turned toward me. “Do you want to talk about it?”

I shook my head. “Not now.”

“What do you want?”

“My promised orgasms.”

Kurt prowled toward me. “As you wish.”

Chapter Forty

Kurt

Thank fuck, it seemed like this mess was over. It had been three days without any new developments. The only missing link was where Amanda had used the computer to communicate with Jennifer.

The bottom line was Amanda was unstable, to say the least. Voices in her head, aliens had stolen the baby I’d made with her and put it in Sawyer, I had proposed and promised her forever until I met Sawyer—the list of delusions was endless. Her lawyer was trying to convince the prosecutor that she wasn’t fit to stand trial but should be remitted to a mental facility instead. If she was considered to be sane, she’d stand trial.

I wanted her to pay.

Normally, I wasn’t a vengeful person, but this psycho deserved something far worse than a stay at some mental hospital for what she’d done. I pressed my palms against my eyes as the elevator ascended to our apartment. Fuck. Let this be over.

At least our initial recordings of “Found” had gone well. We were hoping to release it within the next two months if all went according to plan.

Having our own label was the way we wanted to go with the band. The settlement from the douchebags at our previous label would be sent over this week. Between Garrick and me, they were fucked.

At least that shit was over. One more thing off the list, and on to the next. Tonight, Cameron was coming over so we could tell him about Adriane. Then, we were going to call Sawyer’s parents. She was adamant about never wanting to see them again. The fucking mob. What the fuck were they thinking?
