“I would never betray you, Riley. And despite how much it seems like I love the spotlight or being the subject of reports on my love life, that’s not who I am, either.”
She knew that. Riley was certain she knew exactly who Chaz was.
“I saw your uncle’s press conference about the arrests. I’m sorry this had to happen.” Tobias King had stated unequivocally that he did not condone any type of treachery or games being played with his business or RGF’s. That was not the method of competition he wanted. Riley believed him, too.
“I talked to your brother.”
Riley blinked in confusion. “What? Who? When?”
“RJ. He showed up at my apartment the night after the press conference. He’s the one who gave me the invitation to your show.”
She didn’t know what to say. How had RJ known she would want to see Chaz tonight?
It didn’t matter. Riley took a step closer to Chaz.
“I love you,” she said, feeling waves of relief course through her body at the admission. “I should have admitted it the day you were in my office telling me that you would take care of the scandal. I should have trusted myself and my feelings, but I couldn’t. I didn’t know how. I should have—”
Riley’s words were cut short as Chaz cupped her cheeks and leaned closer. “You should kiss me, Riley.”
He paused after saying the words as if waiting for her to decide. There were people in the foyer with them—not a lot but some. They could be photographers or reporters or models, or anybody else who would love to continue spreading the rumor that Riley Gold was having an affair with Chaz Warren regardless of their family feud.
For the first time Riley didn’t give a damn. People could say and print whatever they wanted. She was going to reach for what she wanted and to hell with anyone who didn’t approve.
“Yeah, I should kiss you,” she whispered and leaned closer to touch her lips to his.
