I cross my arms and frown. “You did. Now get the fuck out.”
“Not with him standin’ there.”
“Who?” Addie asks, but I already know who Tony is talking about. There’s only one person who knows I’m here and that would come check at the first sign of things going south. I rub at my temples and holster my gun. Not like Tony was going to do shit, gun or no gun. But Taylor is bound to be twitchy with Addie crying.
“Your man!”
“Taylor!” Addie cries out.
“Thought I told you to wait in the car.”
Taylor grunts in response. “You took too long. Heard someone crying.”
“That was him,” I say, nodding at Tony as I come up behind him. “He was just on his way out.”
Tony glances back at his sister, his leg shaking like it might give out, so I kick him in the back, sending him sprawling past Taylor who steps to the side with a frown. “Keep moving. Don’t come back,” I tell Tony, who is trying to stand against the wall.
“Y-yeah,” he stammers before he is off and limping down the hallway. Taylor and I watch the rat hurry around the corner before I open the door wider and jerk my chin at Taylor.
“Come in.”
“Addie okay?” He asks, entering the apartment behind me and shutting the door. He sighs when he sees the blood on the floor and couch. “Christ, boss.”
“Needed doing.”
“I-I-I’m sorry, Law,” Addie says. I look her way. She is pale faced, fingers still clutching the laptop she’d gone to get just a handful of minutes before. She sniffles and swallows hard. “I didn’t know he did that. I thought I could trust him but-”
“He hit you?” I ask her.
She drops her eyes, red spreading across her cheeks before she gives a quick nod. “Yeah, since we were kids.”
“That’s done now.”
She wipes at her eyes and nods again. “I know.” Addie looks up at me. “I’m sorry about Honey. I-I don’t know what happened, but it sounded bad. I’m sorry,” she whispers. Taylor comes up to her side and slips an arm around her shoulder. The soft spot he has for her on full display in front of me. I don’t miss the way Addie leans into him, soaking up his strength while he takes the computer from her and brushes her hair out of her face.
Taylor is making a choice. Staking a claim on Addie right now, if the look on his face and the way he is touching her tells me anything. When I look at them, all I can see is the way Honey had looked to me to make things right.
How she’d broken into a thousand fucking pieces when she thought I’d double crossed her.
“Don’t be. It’ll work itself out,” I say. I don’t want to admit anything, not even to Addie who I know I could trust now. Taylor knows enough as it is. Talking about losing Honey makes it permanent and what has gone down between us is anything but. I am going to get her back, it doesn’t matter how many men I have to shoot, or worse.
I’ve done worse for less.
Tony is just the start of this. Honey is worth any and all the blood I will spill.
CHAPTERFIVE
HONEY
I have a father.
“You’re my daughter.”
Never in my wildest dreams did I think I was going to hear Zeus say that. I don’t know what I thought he was going to say to me after he sent everyone out of the room but it was…well, it was anything but him claiming me as his daughter.
We are staring at each other in silence. He hasn’t moved an inch from where he’d come to stand beside me, but he is looking at me with what I can only describe as anxiousness. It looks foreign on his face. Like he doesn’t know what to do with it. I guess that is because no one makes Zeus anxious.
Except that now I am.
