“Yes?” she purred and the word was so suggestive that I wanted to hurl all the delicious food I’d just eaten.

“Can you give us some space?” he asked, keeping that respectful smile on his face. “We’re on a date and we don’t really like being interrupted. If you don’t mind waiting for all the dishes to be finished before you bring them to the table, I’d really appreciate that.”

She froze, her lips parting in shock before she gave a brisk nod. “Yes, of course.” She turned and hurried away, and Krusk went back to eating as if nothing had happened.

I gawked at him, but he reached forward, clucking my chin until my mouth closed.

“Why did you do that?” I hissed at him.

“Because she was making us both uncomfortable,” he answered with a shrug, as if it was as simple as that. And I supposed it was.

Settling back into my chair, I watched as he made quick work of cutting into the new set of pancakes. His smile was sweet as he held out a bite to me. I took it, beyond pleased that he’d rebuffed the female, choosing me instead. I’d never thought that would happen with a male.

I’d never been picked first by anyone other than my dad and grandma. I’d been prepared to settled into the understanding that no one else in the world ever would. Yet here I was, with the most handsome male I’d ever laid eyes on and he was cutting a second bite of pancakes for me.For me.

Not wanting to make a big deal about it while I was there, I leaned forward, taking another bite. The heat that instantly filled his eyes threw me off. His gaze was focused on my lips and he licked his own.

“You have some cream right here,” he said, reached out to run his finger over my lower lip. I allowed it, swiping my tongue out to dab at his finger before he withdrew it.

“Fuck, Zemar,” he groaned. “We’re in public.”

A mischievous smirk popped onto my face as I asked, “So?” in a long, sensual drawl.

“So I can’t do the things that I want to do to your mouth here or we’ll be arrested,” he grumbled. I rolled my lips into a tight-lipped grimace.

“I dunno. I think we can get a lot done before the police get here,” I murmured, running the toe of my foot up his calf.

“Oh, you’re going to get it,” he purred, “but first I want to ask you something.”

I nodded, leaning forward and wondering how sexy his request was going to be.

“Will you be my girlfriend?” he asked, reaching out to tug my hand close again, rubbing it against his cheek in that way that comforted him and enticed me.

“W-What?” I stuttered, my heart pounding in my chest.

“I’m sorry I didn’t ask you before,” he murmured, his gaze earnest as he pressed little kisses to each of my fingers. “I should have talked to you about this before everything happened last night.”

I bit my lip, not wanting to believe that everything was happening so quickly. So perfectly. Glancing away, I tried to hide my smile, but he reached out, tucking his fingers under my chin and bringing my face back to his. “I want you to know that I want much more than that. But I’ll take what you can give me for now.”

“You want much more than me being your girlfriend?” I joked, reaching out to stroke my free hand over his fingers that were under my chin. “Already?”

His eyes softened and he huffed out a laugh. “After getting to know you? Seeing your heart? Your loyalty? Zemar, I’ve been yours from the start. I’m just waiting for you to catch up,” he whispered.

Everything inside of me shivered at his words.

CHAPTER 38

Krusk

It wasn’t hard to see that I’d thrown my mate for a loop. She was looking at me like I’d lost my mind, but I wasn’t going to lie to her. Not anymore. Not aboutanything.

“We should go ring shopping then,” she laughed and I knew she was trying to joke.

“I have the designer’s number on my phone. He did everyone else’s in the clan,” I told her, bypassing her attempt.

I was serious abouther. Aboutus. And I needed her to see that.

She swallowed hard, her lower lip trembling as her gaze dropped to the plate in front of me. “I...” she trailed off, not completing her sentence, but she pulled away, her fingers dropping from mine.
