“Why did he send you limes?” Avigayle said.
“You use limes for tequila shots,” Lillian explained the alien concept without thinking.
“They had free jungle juice at the Halloween party. Did you spend money for tequila shots?” Clarissa’s memory of the party hadn’t failed.
“Not at the bar,” Lillian admitted, feeling a flush creep up her arms.
“OMG! You took him home with you!” Clarissa said with a massive grin. “YES!”
“Why is that ‘yes?’ And why are we talking about it in front of it Avigayle?” Lillian hoped they weren’t offending the Jewish resident’s religious sensitivities.
“Oh, come on! She has four kids. She's had sex at least four times,” Clarissa said. “Yeah, this might not be healthy, but I’m a resident. I’ve got to live vicariously through you. I didn’t meet anybody new at the bar, and I definitely didn't take them home with me to bang them.”
“I didn't bang him.”
“But you took him home,” Clarissa said.
“So what do you do with the limes?” Avigayle asked.
“Take a lick of salt, drink the shot, and then suck on a lime wedge,” Lily said.
“Put the salt where?”
“Usually your hand, but you can do it off your partner’s body and take the lime out of his mouth.” Clarissa gave Lillian a hard stare, and Lillian felt her face burn. “You didn’t!”
"Keep your voices down. I don't want to get in trouble for showing too much familiarity with the residents."
Clarissa shoved her wrist in her mouth, but Avigayle was more dignified about it.
"We are adults here," Avigayle said. "You didn't become our friend because you graduated."
"Besides, I love you actually went out and got something you wanted for yourself instead of waiting for something else to happen," Clarissa squeaked.
"Which applies to this situation because?"
"Because whatever time you spent with the guy…" Clarissa paused. "What's his name?"
"Gene."
"Whatever time you spent with Gene, Mr. Tall, dark and… what color is Gene's hair?"
"I don't know." The two other doctors looked at her oddly. "He wore a mask the whole time. He was the Man in Black from the Princess Bride."
"Okay, whatever time you spent with Gene, the kinky costume guy from the Halloween party, was a thing you did for YOU. It made you feel good, and he obviously wants to see you again because that's his second batch of flowers."
“So I'm allowed to call him back because we only had one hot night and he left and then sent these flowers? He could be an ax murderer.”
“If he were an ax murderer, you wouldn’t be here today. So he must have had a good enough time he’s trying to get a repeat. With limes,” Clarissa said.
“What do you think, Avigayle?” Lillian asked for a different opinion—ideally someone not living out a vicarious fantasy.
“I think this is outside of my clinical experience. I got engaged after my first kiss. I agree with the ax murderer thing.”
“The engagement thing doesn’t seem applicable to Lillian’s dirty sexy problem,” Clarissa agreed.
“Probably not,” Lillian said.
“On the other hand, it was a tremendously good kiss.” Avigayle pointed at the limes. “Can I have a couple of these? Like two or eight?”
