I shook my head in disbelief.

“What?”

“No one would believe me if I told them how sensitive you really are.”

He chuckled. “How are you feeling?”

“Better,” I admitted. “I needed to eat.”

“And talk to me.”

“And talk to you,” I agreed. “I’m still feeling really tired, though. If I can’t shake this bug, I’m going to the doctor.”

He looked at me for a long moment.

“What?” I asked.

“Nothing.” He rose and held out his hand to me. I took it and stood, wrapping myself around him. “You know what you need, hen?”

“What?”

“A bath,” he said, leading me toward the bathroom. “With me in it.”

“I’ll never say no to that.”

Chapter 54

“I hate this,” I stated.

“I know,” Flynn said, shrugging into his coat, “but I’ll feel better knowing you’re here.”

“I want to come. I can sit quietly on the roof and watch everything go down. You won’t even know I’m there.”

He sighed. “Barrett—”

“Flynn.”

“You’ll be a distraction,” he cut me off. “I’ll worry about you every moment. If you stay here, I’ll know you’re safe. Safe and warm. It’s cold out there.”

“At least it’s not snowing.” I dropped my arms to my sides, losing some of my resentment. “You’ll be careful.”

“Of course.”

“And if Marino looks like he’s going to try something funny…”

“I’ve got a weapon. Sasha, Brad, and Duncan are carrying, too. I’m going with a well-armed entourage.”

“Call me the minute it’s over and Winters has Marino. Okay?”

“Okay.”

“Promise me,” I commanded.

“I promise,” he said with a smile. Leaning over, he kissed me on the lips—a quick brush and then it was over. “Call Ash. Have her come over and distract you.”

“It was a really good idea letting her in to our little circle.”

“I did that for you,” he said. “You needed someone to talk to.”
