He looked at my naked ring finger. “Why not? A woman who looks like you and knows her scotch…you must be one of a kind.”

My smile widened. “Glad you think so. It would take a very special man to get me to settle down.”

“You mean like the kind of man who owns his own scotch distillery?” he asked.

I shrugged.

“So, the scotch lover is not impressed?”

“Not really.”

The bartender set another glass of liquor in front of the man and then discreetly moved away.

“I could sail you around the world on my catamaran. She’s a massive vessel, fit for a king and queen. I could take you to places on this earth regular people don’t even know exist.”

“Tempting.” My gaze slid down him like the alcohol slid down my throat. Warm. Heady. “But I’m looking for something—something…”

“I could give you a life you’ve never dared to dream,” he continued, his blue eyes flickering like twin flames. “I could give you the most beautiful children in all the world… I could give you my heart.”

I took a step closer to him, and with my free hand, I placed it against his chest. “You sound pretty cavalier about your heart. Do you trust me to keep it safe for you?”

His smile was slow, heated. “Not even a little bit.”

I grinned. “Smart man. I like smart men.”

His hand snaked out to rest on the curve of my hip, and he pulled me closer. “Have dinner with me.”

“Now?”

“Aye, now. Apparently, I’m going to need a few more hours to seduce you.”

I leaned forward and whispered in his ear. “I’m a simple woman. Feed me,then fuck me.”

His crack of laughter boomed across the restaurant, and he signaled once again to the bartender.

“Sir?” the young man asked.

Flynn looked at me and grinned. “My wife is hungry. Bring one of everything on the menu.”

“Well?” Flynn asked several hours later.

I sipped on an amaro. “Well, what?”

“Well, how was it?”

“I’ve had better,” I stated.

“You’re referring to the food, aye?” he asked with a glint of amusement.

“Yes. The food. I’m a fan of the company and the conversation.”

Our bodies were turned toward each other. We had an innate intimacy born from several years of marriage and raising children together. But we still reached for excitement and new opportunities. Hence our teasing banter when we’d pretended to be strangers meeting for the first time in a bar.

“I agree with you about the food.” Flynn dabbed his lips with a black cloth napkin and set it aside. “The Monaco Rex will be a smashing success.”

“Agreed.”
