I rested my head against his chest.
“Maisie died.”
My heart pounded and tears welled in my eyes.
“Maisie and Donal named us the baby’s legal guardians because neither of them had family.”
“Oh, wow,” I murmured, my head whirling.
“You wanted a baby.”
“Yes,” I croaked.
He turned me to face him and cradled my cheeks in his palms. “This one needs a good home. Let’s make her part of our family.”
I blinked. “Are you sure about this?”
“I’m sure.”
“Why? Why have you changed your mind?”
“I haven’t changed my mind at all, hen.” He smiled. “It’s my heart that’s changed.”
“Such a beautiful heart,” I whispered, tears filling my eyes.
Chapter14
FLYNN
“Hen,”I said. “We have to get going.”
“Five more minutes,” Barrett responded.
We were in a private hospital room and Barrett was holding our new daughter, gazing down at her with an enraptured expression on her face.
“We need to get home before the boys wake up if we want to surprise them.”
She chuckled softly and stroked the sleeping baby’s cheek. “Are you sure there won’t be any trouble with the hospital?”
“Positive. Everything’s been arranged.”
Barrett sighed. “You’re okay with her name?”
“More than okay,” I assured her. “I love it.”
Barrett placed our daughter in the carrier that Cormac had found for us. She secured a blanket with bright yellow ducks around her, tucking her in to make sure she was warm and comfortable.
It was nearly six in the morning by the time we were on our way back to Ash and Duncan’s.
“We’re the craziest two people in the world,” Barrett said with a laugh.
I chuckled. “Why? Because we make decisions quickly? Once we know what we want, we make it happen.”
“She’s beautiful, isn’t she, Flynn?”
“Aye. A bonnie wee lass.”
“Do you think the boys will take to her?” she asked with concern on her face as she looked at me.
