Luca, in his dragon form again, opened one eye. “Powers returned? I knew they would by now.”
I put on my shoes, already dressed. “No time to waste. Let’s get to that ward and get the hell out. It’s been real in the cave, though.”
Luca shifted before my eyes into his human form as if he were just shaking water off his body like a dog. It was a blink, and he was a naked, hot human form again. I looked at his large manhood hanging between his legs and let out a sigh, sorry that I wouldn’t have time to get another quickie in before we got out of there. However, I itched to get to the ward and try my hardest to escape. It felt like time was shoving me forward, and I was going to listen to my instincts.
Luca put out the fire and got dressed quickly. We packed our things and then headed out. The walk to the edge of town where the ward began was only another five miles. Beyond the ward, I could only see white mist. It was as if the town was wrapped in a fog. Was this what outsiders saw as well? Was it from the cloak or the ward? I needed to focus on the ward. I could get past the cloak. But I needed to return to save the others. Getting both down had to be my mission.
I pressed against what felt like an invisible brick wall and began to whisper a ward-breaking spell. Luca stood behind me, surveying the area to ensure no one would appear. I kept pushing against the ward, but the solid feel did not weaken.
Minutes passed, and still nothing, not even a slight softening. Maybe I really couldn’t get this damn thing down. The spell was good, but perhaps my magical strength wasn’t good enough for this job.
“No luck,” Luca said more than asked. The tone in his voice sounded defeated.
I dropped my shoulders, lowering my hand. “Can dragons break wards if they can make them?”
“I’ve tried, but I’m not strong enough.”
“Maybe if we both try together through our bond, huh?”
He turned around and pressed his hand out, closing his eyes, face scrunched in fierce concentration. I did the same, returning to my spell.
More time passed with only a slight softening. It was working but working too slowly. At this rate, we’d be found out.
I fought the annoying urge to cry. I was a big girl. I would not give in. And I would not be stuck in this hell hole. If the Nodoorians found me, it was game over. There had to be something more.
I inhaled and rolled my shoulders back, renewing my strength. “It’ll just take time. We have to keep at it until we can’t anymore, break, and then do it some-” I stopped talking, a bright idea entering my mind.
Yosef. Could he possibly lend us some strength through his claim? I knew we weren’t his omegas, but there had to be something of benefit. If we could communicate and we could feel each other’s freaking orgasms, maybe he could bump us up in a little power.
I quickly reached out to Yosef in my mind, and he immediately answered. I explained what we were trying to do.
I can certainly try. He replied in my mind.
I glanced over to Luca, who was still concentrating. “Yosef’s going to try to power-boost us.”
He relaxed his face. “I heard.”
“What?”
“Seems our bonding reconnected me to Yosef.”
Well, that was helpful. We could now have a group call.
Do you feel anything?Yosef asked in my head.
I blew out a breath.Nothing.
Same.Luca added.
Luca?Yosef questioned.
Yes. Lila’s bonded with me, and it’s brought me back.
I really wanted them to connect, but we were working on borrowed time here. Before I could interrupt, a cool rush of energy coursed through my veins.Wait a minute, now.
Power?Yosef asked.
Or I’m getting high.
