So far, no one was following.
Suddenly, a figure materialized in front of her, and she stopped in her tracks. He had green hair.
“That’s the bastard,” Xander said through clenched teeth.
I shot up, bursting into my dragon form. I didn’t need to wait for Yosef’s call. I had to keep Lila safe. We wouldn’t lose her.

LILA
Iloved it when a plan came together. Things didn’t move completely smoothly. I had some hiccups with finding something Nigel possessed for a long enough period of time, and my locating magic was a bit slow-moving. It wasn’t until my guys gave me a power boost through our bonds that I narrowed down the dark mage’s location.
Once I began walking on the beach, I was certain this was the enemy camp, so when Nigel teleported in front of me, I didn’t even waste any time and shoved a spear of my ice magic at him. We didn’t need to talk. I wanted nothing from him.
Unfortunately, the green-haired wizard dodged my attack, jumping to the left. He chuckled, rolling his shoulders back. “There you are. I’ve been looking everywhere for you.”
An ear-shattering roar filled the cool evening air, and I looked up to see dragon Luca in the sky, puffing out a ring of fire. He looked horrifying above us. Behind Nigel, I could see the camp of fae scramble about, preparing arms.
I smirked at the wizard. “He’s going to kill you all.”
Nigel cleared his throat nervously, glancing up to Luca and then behind him, where there was a mini battle taking place between the Prinath and, apparently, the Nodoorians. We were outnumbered, but our fighters were the best in the realm. Our fighters.I was already thinking like I was one of them. I shot out more of my magic while he wasn’t paying attention and got him in the shoulder with an ice pick.
Nigel stumbled back, clutching his arm in shock. “How did you get a dragon on your side?”
I took a step back, not wanting to get turned into a burnt crisp along with the wizard, although I knew Luca wouldn’t let that happen. “I got skills.”
Sand kicked up and whipped around me, partially obstructing my vision and cutting into my skin. Luca wasted no time breathing fire in Nigel’s direction, but it hit an invisible wall, leaving Nigel and several feet of space around him in the clear. Another damn ward.
I conjured sheets of ice, slamming down the sand particles. I had to take down that ward, and so far, Luca’s fire wasn’t working. The dragon stormed forward and lifted a gigantic foot in the air, stomping on the ward. I could see Nigel’s eyes widen in fear, but the damn ward didn’t break.
I rounded the other side of the ward and placed my hands on the invisible wall as I muttered a spell to break it. If I could break the ward of a whole town, I could get this one down. Before I could blast out another push of my magic, what felt like acid burned through the right side of my ribcage. A black arrow with a glowing blue tip protruded from my side. Clutching around the burning wound, I turned slightly to see Olivia walking in my direction, another arrow aimed and ready for me.
I shot out my hand, sending shards of ice her way. She moved to the side but not fast enough to avoid getting stabbed by a shard in her thigh. She screamed bloody murder and wobbled to me. A giant tail whipped in front of us, knocking her into the air and into the ocean.
Luca roared in her direction as she splashed in the water. They were kind of friends. Would he be able to hurt her? There was no way she’d be able to fight-
Olivia rose up through the water, her body steaming like a kettle until it blackened as if she were charred. Suddenly, fire burst from her body, covering her. Only it wasn’t because of Luca. It was her own magic. This chick was a flying matchstick. Or what most might call an elemental faerie. A fire faerie, to be exact. Welp, there went my confidence that Luca could easily take her out. They’d be literally fighting fire with fire.
The pain in my side felt like it was spreading to my back. It made sense, seeing as the damn arrow was still in me. It was probably poisonous. I was torn between helping Luca, healing my wound, and killing Nigel. I didn’t have much time to decide. The way my body was burning and twisting, I was probably already not long much longer for this world.
I sucked in a deep, shaky breath and turned to Nigel just as dragon Luca took off for the sky. I had to remember that he wasn’t weak. This man was a beast. I, on the other hand, was seeing double. Yup, definitely poisoned.
Nigel and his twin laughed at me, arms crossed over their chests. Since when did he have a twin? Ah, yes, double vision. “You don’t look so good, my friend. Her poison arrows pack a punch.”
“Fuck off. You and your twin are so weak, hiding behind a ward.”
I needed to get it down and kick his ass.
Yosef!I screamed in my head.
A little busy at the moment, sweetness. Tell me everything is okay.
I need to take down a small ward. Can you spare a bit of magic?
It’s coming to you right now.
I trudged over to Nigel, holding my side. Drawing back my fist, I slammed against the invisible wall with every ounce of magic I could muster.
