I turned my neck slightly to him. “Is that all you have to say? You aren’t mad at me?”
He dragged his fingers inside my wetness, bringing a shaky sigh from me. I was still eager for my next release, my body beginning to warm again with need. “You made a mistake. So, have I. I’ve allowed innocent people to get hurt and killed during the war.”
“That was your duty as a soldier,” I breathed out as his thumb grazed over my sensitive bud, and my thighs tensed in response.
“Give me names.”
I knew him well enough to know exactly what he meant. “You can’t go after the group, Ivan. It’s too dangerous.”
He paused his movements, and I frowned. He was playing games, but I was in too much of a lustful state to put up a fight. “Ivan,” I whined.
He pulsed inside of me, most likely encouraged by my omega whine. “Jacob is one of them. Is that insect Jullian also a part of this? This seems like something he’d want. He implied it when Aaron got married. I can’t report them without proof. The bestway to stop them is to kill them. That’s my only option. End the threat to you. I’ll make it okay, love. Don’t worry.”
I pushed back against him, hardly able to maintain this very serious conversation. I was wondering if this was his plan. Give such a dangerous talk when I was at my most vulnerable so that I would give in. Right now, all I wanted was to feel the fullness of him. Feel our bodies connect until I could not determine where I ended and he began. “Listen to me, Ivan,” I panted. “Do not kill anyone.”
He moved his fingers again between my legs, and I drenched them without a care, my orgasm only moments away. “I can make it look like an accident.”
He was so frustrating. And so damn good at what he did. “We don’t even know if it’s the dissenters coming after us. I’m giving you another possibility. It really could be my parents, yours, or both. Hell, it could even be that asshole alpha who tried to claim me.” I wouldn’t put it past Jullian to let others know where I was now. “Or maybe a crazy jealous fae who is upset to see you get married. Therefore, let’s not go killing anyone unless we have proof. I’ll think of something else.”
He applied more pressure to my clit, rubbing through my slick until my toes curled at the intoxicating pleasure. “Wewill think of something else.”
Weagain. He kept reminding me that I wasn’t alone. It was its own verbal foreplay for me. Despite my need to fight independently, I craved having someone have my back without compromising my own strength. Ivan always knew the right things to say.
He ground his hips harder into me. His pelvis pushing against me, tearing a scream from me as my body pulsated with another orgasm. He soon followed, his hips shaking against me as ropes of his release filled me again. I felt our mix drip down my innerthigh, making a mess of us. But I didn’t care. I crossed my legs, wanting every bit of him.
Something animalistic came from him. A growl more dragon-like than his glamoured fae voice. He ground into me once more. “I searched for you for nearly three years,” he began, his voice different from before. Deeper, grittier. Dangerous. “Why do you think you hold no importance in my life that I’d let you go so easily? This time, we find a solution together.”
I cried out as his cock continued to vibrate inside of me, not letting me rest. At this rate, he would actually make me come all night. However, my heat was fine with that. My omega nature wanted everything he could give me.
I felt the tip of his tongue glide over my heated skin, my back arching as the silky wet touch fired my delicate nerves.
“I’m not letting you run from me again, omega,” he continued, his foreign voice igniting my core. “I was controlled into doing things I hated as a soldier during war. You were controlled as a noble omega. Now let’s see what happens when we’re together and free.”
I came again, tears springing from my eyes. I was scared to give in, but I couldn’t deny that working together sounded perfect.
Chapter Twelve
Ivan
Ilooked in the floor-length mirror in our bedroom a few days later, preparing to attend this unnecessary ball. I was covered in bites. This was not a complaint. My wife had marked me, in her own way. When we were together years ago, she’d given me a nibble or two during her heat, but never anything to this level. She’d broken skin. I had bites on my shoulder, thighs, chest.
And I loved it.
In fact, I was kind of sad they were healing so fast. A testament to my dragon healing abilities, but this time, it was annoying. Although I knew we weren’t bonded, it felt like we were every time I looked at the marks. Maybe I was demented like some others have said, but I smiled whenever I looked at them. And with Jalisa holding up to her end of the deal by not mentioningthat this marriage was fake, I could fully believe that our reunion would be real. She didn’t know it, but my plan was working perfectly.
She couldn’t hide that she was falling again for me. Her body missed me. Her omega nature wanted us together. Otherwise, why would she have marked me so much? I just had to make it safe for us so that she could be comfortable with us being together. Going to this ridiculous ball was not going to help in that endeavor.
We needed to maintain a quiet presence. Going to a ball would put too much attention on us, which I suppose was the purpose of the invitation. Alpha and omega pairings were always a thing of scrutiny, and since Jalisa’s status as a noble was now exposed, more eyes would be on us. Especially since she broke her engagement to that noble alpha. People didn’t understand, and despite my above average looks, they felt like she’d taken a downgrade. I was a soldier, higher ranking but not the highest, and I came from the working class, although few knew I was a dragon, which would have made it worse. Not to mention my troubling memory issue.
The doctors stated there was nothing they could do, but they were starting to be concerned about the increased forgetfulness. I should have been getting better, not worse. I was driving myself to distraction and the growing anxiety from the memory loss. I could do nothing to stop it, and any loss memory of Jalisa was like losing precious jewels. I was going bankrupt before my eyes.
The goal tonight would be to keep this short. Make our presence known to the court and then leave. I didn’t need any negative attention on me. If I didn’t recall something, I’d have to pretend I remembered to avoid concern.
The bathroom door opened behind me, and I spun around, a grin instantly spreading across my face. Jalisa stood in thedoorway. She was a vision in a sparkling lavender strapless gown that complemented the glow of her brown skin. The front dipped low, highlighting her lovely cleavage. The bottom half was slightly flared but still fitted to her hips and perfect ass. Her reddish-brown curls were piled at the top of her head with select pieces framing her lovely face. I inhaled deeply, her cherry almond scent wrapping around me, soothing me. It was amazing how she could be my calm without even trying.
“You look breathtaking,” I said, my voice barely a whisper.
She walked over to me and adjusted my tie. “Thank you. You look very handsome, although I still can’t believe you haven’t learned how to wear your formal tie correctly.”
