Epilogue
Viper had run as if her life depended upon it. That asshole, Tommy Chen. Ha. Nice Earth name. Then again, she’d adopted Viper because her real name wasn’t that easy to pronounce in this form.
Just one night after her escape from Rock Hall, she held her side, not pleased that she’d been caught by a stray bullet filled with that toxic ooze. She sat in one of Tommy’s hideaways. The criminal overlord had small secret stashes all over the city, and it had taken her a while to find one of his abandoned bolt holes.
Last night, she’d used her energy to burn off the poison so she could heal. But drained as she was, she knew she’d be vulnerable for a day or so. Not great, but what could she do? And just what the hell had those humans used as ammo in their new wonder guns? Her intel hadn’t covered that.
Footsteps sounded in the alley, probably another drug-addled junkie or homeless Voider searching for a place to rest. Fortunately, she’d found a way to secure her current location, a wall of rock hiding her, making it appear as if the wall had been one piece all along, not broken to reveal a place to hide. All thanks to her grandfather’s ring.
She clutched the ring against her chest, wearing it threaded through a silver chain. The piece of jewelry had finally returned to her, ironically stolen from the thief who’d stolen it from her family.
She missed her grandfather so much. Her home, her family. All gone because of Tommy Chen and those damn Dekken invaders. They had destroyed so much. But Tommy, he’d ruined her hopes and dreams. A much more intimate betrayal. One he’d pay for eventually.
“I know you’re there.”
She heard his voice ring out and froze. How the heck had he found her so soon?
A deep, dark laugh haunted the alley. “I have your scent now, V. I’m going to find you.” He sounded more than determined. He sounded obsessed. “I’ll never stop looking.Never.And then you and I will have that reckoning we’re due.”
Oh, you don’t know the half of it, you bastard.
Her treasonous ex-fiancé had a good ass-kicking coming to him.
And she was just the woman to do it.
