Soon enough, the door swings open and there on the other side are three sets of eyes—Gideon and twin strangers. All three men stop dead in their tracks, one of them grins, the other blatantly peruses my body, and Gideon doesn’t look all that happy.

“I’m sorry about this, gentlemen, I’ll have to sort this out,” Gideon tells them before they shake hands and walk away. He doesn’t enter his office for a while, and I have to grab my jacket to pull it back on to keep myself from puking. I’m so embarrassed, I don’t know where to look.

The door clicking captures my attention, and soon enough, Gideon is inches from me. He leans in. With his thumb, he tips my head backwards, so I’m looking directly into those green eyes.

“Care to explain why me and both my bosses just saw you dressed like a naughty little girl?” His voice is husky, gravel coating every word, and I know I’m in trouble.

“I-I-I…” Shaking my head, I breathe once more before I respond. “I wanted to surprise you.”

“Oh, you definitely did that.” He chuckles, but the sound isn’t his normal happy tone. This time, it’s dark and foreboding. “I want you to go home. Wait for me until I get home tonight. You’ll not touch yourself, you’ll not even shower until I get there.”

“But—”

“I wasn’t done.” He taps my lips with the tip of his index finger to keep me quiet. “Then at four-thirty, I want you to put on the short plaid skirt I saw in your closet. You’ll also wear a pretty white blouse with nothing underneath.”

It doesn’t look like he’s joking, but it also doesn’t look like he’s angry with me. I’m not sure how to feel, but my cheeks are hot, burning from the embarrassment.

“Do you understand me?” His tone is no-nonsense, and I realize if I don’t answer him, I’ll be in more trouble than it’s worth.

“Yes, Sir. I’m sorry.”

“I know you are, and tonight, I’ll show you just how punishment works,” Gideon says, spinning me on my heels and turning me toward the door. “Now go. I have to focus and get rid of this fucking hard-on before my client meeting.”

Without looking at Allyson, I lower my head and focus on my pathway to the elevator. With my red-hot cheeks and my admonishment still stinging, I’m thankfully hidden by the sleek silver doors as I’m carried to the ground floor.

Once I’m on the sidewalk, I look up at the sky and breathe in the fresh air. Even though it’s humid outdoors, I allow the heat to envelop me before a town car pulls up to where I’m standing.

“Miss Brassington,” the driver says when he rolls down the window. “Mr. Hale said to pick you up and take you home.” He’s thought of everything. Nodding, I open the back door and slip into the bench seat.

The drive home is quiet. Thankfully, I can think about what he has planned tonight, but then again, I don’t know if I want to allow my mind to race through all the possibilities that await me.

Instead, I’ll have to attempt to read. Instead of all the scenes running like a loop in my mind, I focus on the words. Tonight is going to be interesting. That’s for sure.

Chapter 14

Gideon

“Kneel,” I command her from the chair.

She doesn’t argue, merely drops to her knees before me. Draped in the pleated skirt and white shirt, yet barefoot, she looks ever the submissive. I know she won’t fight me on this because she broke the rules.

Even though she’s still fairly new to this, I want to assure her that I may be angry with her, but I’m still here for when she needs me. I want to please her, but also punish her. The perfect idea comes to mind.

“I want you to slip off the skirt, allow it to fall to the floor where you’re kneeling.” My voice is rough, evidence that I’m in need of release. I want her to feel me inside her, long after she wakes up in the morning and goes on with her day.

I watch her now, as the delicate material slips down her frame. She’s fragile as a porcelain doll. Small, waif-like, with slight curves to her hips. Everything about her draws me in. And I realize there is no hiding my feelings for her anymore.

That’s not to say that I want to hide her from them, but I need time to figure this out. Oliver told me to take a chance, to allow my feelings to finally lead me, and to think with my heart. But every time I’ve ever done that, it’s backfired, so taking it slow is what I plan to do.

Although slow has passed a while ago. I want so badly to tell Clover I love her, it’s been sitting on my tongue like a poison, waiting to be spat out.
