The dinner date itself was on a balcony, perched high above the trees with excellent views of the surrounding landscape. We got to the balcony in the afternoon and there were wild animals to look at in the distance.

The air here was surprisingly clean and I could not help but notice just how wild the entire place looked. I was really glad that Felix had brought me on this trip, I was glad to see a part of the world that I would otherwise never see.

We sat just the two of us on the balcony, staring deeply at each other and enjoying each other’s presence. Felix was unusually sensitive of late and he rarely left my side, only traveling with the team when he absolutely had to.

I was glad that the Leviathans had given him some time off for him to enjoy an extended Valentine’s break; it was deserved because Felix was among the hardest workers on the team and he always gave his all for a win.

We talked about the past year, how good it had been for the both of us because we were together. Everything seemed to be going right for us and I mentioned that we almost never hooked up because of the differences in our personalities.

From the first moment I laid eyes on Felix, I acknowledged he was handsome but immediately repelled from him because he was a player. I was not interested in simply becoming a trophy for him and things looked like they would never work out.

But I will never forget the day Felix approached me when he was doing the matchmaking gig given to him by his coach. I never thought he would ever have the courage to approach me in that manner and actually mean what he was saying.

His coach had to couch for him after we went on the first date and I was glad that I had not completely dismissed the idea of being with Felix. As it turned out, he was just like me, waiting to find the right person to spend his life with.

I asked Felix where he thought this was going and he said he could see us being together for the long term. We were both in love with each other and we wanted to be together.

The dinner was very romantic because it was private and there was a lot of kissing. Felix was unusually restrained, treating me with the highest standards of a gentleman and when we retreated to the bedroom later that night, we made passionate love.

The following day was going to be our last before we caught a flight back home, and I wanted to enjoy myself one last time, see a little more wildlife and breathe in the clean and fresh air.

I got out of bed before Felix and took a cold shower, the water feeling very refreshing on my skin. The temperature here was much warmer than I was used to and so I found myself sweating up much faster than normal.

I could not help but think that back at home, everybody else was braving freezing conditions and falling snow whereas Felix and I were staring at an emboldened sun shining down on a very beautiful land.

When I got out of the shower, I was shocked to find Felix crouched on one knee with his head bowed and his right hand clutching a black casing. I almost tumbled into him and splashed some water from my hair to the ground.

“What the hell are you doing?” I demanded.

He looked up at me, a crooked smile on his face. He had just come out of bed but he still looked handsome as ever, those boyish looks completely irresistible. His eyes were like that of a hawk but at the same time like a baby’s innocent and naïve.

“Mandy—” he started and opened the black box to reveal a beautiful, shiny diamond ring tucked inside it.

My heart skipped a beat and the world faded, but only for a moment as the only thing I could see was the brightness of the ring. It was perhaps the most beautiful thing I had ever seen so close to me, yet so small. It was a befuddling sight.

“What’s this?” My head was swirling and I was starting to regret the cold shower that I had just taken. Whatever was happening before me was surreal and I was completely lost for words.

“Mandy, will you marry me?”

Those words would echo and stick with me for the rest of my life. Felix was staring at me, at first eagerly and then incredulously as I remained silent. It took a bit of a moment for me to snap back to the world, to come back to the reality that Felix was immersing me into.

“Felix, oh my gosh…what do I say?”

“Say you’ll marry me.”
