“This all seems so unreal to me.”

“Well, it’s real,” I snarl. “So get used to it. Now get dressed. I’m taking that fine ass out tonight.”

Chapter Eleven

Lola

I gasp as Liam guides his sleek jet-black sedan over the crest of the hill.

We’ve been driving for what feels like an hour now, Hunter curled up on the back seat, snoring.

At first, I was self-conscious about the dress I picked out, one that shows more leg than I’d usually risk. It was one of those dresses I bought when I mistakenly believed I might get a sudden influx of confidence one day.

But when I saw how Liam was looking at me – his features twisted in need each time he glanced at me – I knew I’d made the right decision.

Through the forest, we drove, the trees eating the light and making it seem like we were flowing across a world of complete darkness.

Now we’ve finally reached the top of the hill.

Below us, an icy lake glitters, seeming to harness all the starlight and make it shine from beneath. I stare at the beauty of it, lyrics swirling around my mind, but all of them are hazy and indefinite. All I know is that I want to be down there, amidst the beauty of it all.

Somehow, with Liam, I can forget about Kayley and Quinn and my aunt and my parents and everything.

I can just be.

Is that Valentine’s magic or just Liam’s magic?

“You haven’t seen the lodge yet,” Liam smirks, guiding us down the hill.

“It’s such a beautiful view,” I say.

“Yeah,” he says, “it is.”

He’s looking right at me with that suggestive smirk, his eyes flitting down to my legs as he comments on the view. His eyes have magnetized to my bare thighs over and over, and by now I’m starting to accept that he really likes them.

He really wants them—he really wants me.

Maybe I’m not too fat, too different, too anything.

Maybe for Liam, I’m just right.

And that’s the only man I care about.

“What are you smiling about?” he asks warmly as we glide downward.

“Just, when you look at me like that, I feel sort of pretty.”

“Sort of pretty?” he laughs deeply. “Jesus, Lola. You’re absolutely beautiful. You’re gorgeous. You’re everything. I can’t describe it. I was never good with words. You destroy my self-control and my willpower. You turn me into a beast. You’re everything I could ever wish for. Sort of pretty? That’s the world’s biggest understatement right there.”

I giggle. “And who said fishing for compliments never worked, huh?”

He grins and reaches over, tickling me in my side.

I laugh and pull away from him, squeezing myself up against the window.

“You can’t run from me all night,” he snarls. “I can’t wait to see how perfect you look with my huge cock stuffed inside of you.”

I shiver, my clit giving another pulse. My panties are wet again. I don’t know how he does it to me.

“Do you think you’ll fit?” I murmur.

“Yes,” he growls. “I don’t care how tight your virgin hole is, I’m taking it. It belongs to me. I could take it right now if I wanted. But first, let me sit you someplace warm with a view and treat you like a lady.”

He laughs and I giggle.

“So no more sex talk, huh?”

“Hey,” he smirks. “I didn’t promise anything.”

We laugh together as he drives us down the hill.

Soon, the lodge comes into view, set up on a stone foundation on the edge of the lake. Icicles cling to, making it look like something out of a fairytale. The lodge itself is constructed of thick logs, completing the lost-in-the-wilderness look.

It looks like the sort of forgotten place where anything is possible.

“Thoughts?” Liam says, waving a hand over the balcony railing to the glittering lake.

I stare, captivated.

Liam has installed lights in the surrounding hills and forest that shine down on the lake. They flash and change configuration, a light show that dances in the darkness, like fireworks, exploding beneath the water.

“This is amazing,” I tell him. “Why did you build it?”

He winces, his temples pulsing for a moment. Sizzling sensations move through me when his face takes on that expression. He looks like a hunter contemplating his next outing. His eyes turn glassy, hard, and then he turns back to the dancing light show.

“You had it made for Kayley,” I murmur.

“Did she tell you?” he says.

“No,” I reply. “You told me just now. With your face. Don’t forget, Liam, I can read you just as well as you can read me.”

He turns back to me, reaching out, and smooths his hand over my cheek. The heated flooring moves up through me, infusing every part of me until it becomes a piece of my heart. With each beat, more and more heat moves around my body.

His hand is on fire against my cheek, cradling my face.
