“We did,” she said. I pulled my Cherry to me and kissed her.

America’s Most Eligible Bachelor No Longer Looking Available

Edison Roads, CEO of Roads Automotive, was spotted this weekend looking smitten with his new bride as he treated her to a private island getaway. The man who was rated America’s greatest catch just last year appears to be caught up in a big way with gorgeous new wife, Laney (Mills) Roads, daughter of Circuit Judge Robert Mills. The mother of his child is an entrepreneur herself, and rumor has it that Roads is venturing out into new territory with an expansion of his wife’s company, The Lace Garage. Photogs captured the couple kissing on the beach, where the scenery of a tropical paradise wasn’t enough to tear Edison Roads’ attention from his wife. The proud papa left little to the imagination clad only in his swimsuit throughout the vacation—tattoos and muscles on full display. Sorry, ladies—this hunk of a man is clearly taken. Don’t despair. With a little sleuthing, Associated News uncovered another Roads, the billionaire’s younger brother Ethan, still appears to be single.

EPILOGUE TWO

Four Years later

Laney

Porsha was chasing her little sister, Mercedes, around the giant Christmas tree. With Daddy’s help, they’d installed an electric train that ran on tracks under the tree. Mercedes squealed as she chased it, toddling on her chubby legs. My husband, in all his glory, is squished underneath, trying to figure out how to get the lights to work. When the girls crashed into him and fell in a giggling heap, he took one in each arm and stood to his full height. The girls laughed in delight as he rushed to the couch, where I was reclining under a furry blanket.

“Gentle with Mama and her belly,” he reminded the girls as they crawled on top of me and burrowed under the blanket.

I was in my third trimester with twins, and the doctor had ordered bed rest from here on out. I might have fudged a little bit if Eddie weren’t watching me with eagle eyes. He wouldn’t let me do anything without help. But the good news was the boys were fine and at a healthy weight, and soon they’d be here in our arms.

The other good news was that we were still cleared to have sex. I was the one who thought to ask the doctor. Poor Edison was so nervous about me carrying twins, he practically forgot about his favorite pastime.

“Good thinking, Cherry,” he’d told me as he’d shut the door to the car after my last appointment.

With four kids, our life would go from crazy to chaotic, but I couldn’t imagine anything else. Life with Edison Roads was a never-ending adventure. We kept one another on our toes. Our business…our two businesses have taken off more than we could handle. Edison brought Uncle Ethel in, and now they share the load of Roads together. I managed The Lace Garage primarily by myself, although the only cars I refurbish now were the ones I did for fun.

I still baked German chocolate cake, and it still earned me appreciative moans.

I couldn’t ask for a better man or a better father to my children.

Edison kissed me softly as he rose to put the girls to bed.

“Say good night to Mommy. Two stories, and then we’ll tuck you in.”

Porsha would start school next year. She was a pretty special kid. For Halloween, she’d asked to be a mechanic like Mommy, so Eddie and I had dressed her up as Rosie the Riveter. I knew that our daughters would be encouraged to do whatever they wanted. There was a framed picture on Edison’s desk at Roads of her in that costume. And this year at his newest shop, Edison had hired two female mechanics straight out of graduation from the technical college.

Life was so good, it felt like a decadent sundae, one with a bright-red cherry on top.
