“Yes!”I gasped, gripping the pillow under my head, losing myself a little at a time.

“So hungry for it.”He moaned.“For my cock.Hungry for me.”

Yes, I was.I could never get enough.Of him, of this, of whatever this was we created together.

“Oh… oh God… I’m… com…” Howling into the pillow, I gave in, swept away on a wave of pure bliss.I spasmed around him until he jerked inside me with a gravelly groan that sent shivers down my spine.I fell forward, limp, dazed. If only I could always wake up this way.

The light slap he delivered against my ass made me jump and giggle as he climbed off the bed.“I’ll be late for my breakfast meeting, but ask me if I care,” he told me with a laugh on his way into the en suite.

Something was different.Ever since he came home early yesterday, he was different.Something good must have happened. He hadn’t told me what yet, though we had spent most of last night doing exactly what we had just finished doing again. There wasn’t exactly a lot of time for conversation.

Now, though, I got up and slipped into a silky robe, standing in the en suite’s doorway while he took a quick shower before work.“You should just call out, and we can get back to bed,” I suggested, chuckling when he growled over his shoulder.

“Don’t tempt me.Although, to be honest, I think I need a little bit of a rest.”Looking me up and down, he added, “By now, you probably do too.”

He made a good point.I was sore but deliciously so.

“I was thinking,” he continued, rinsing suds from his skin.“How about I take you out tonight?I’ll be in back-to-back meetings, and I promised the guys I would meet up for a drink, but I could get here by around seven to pick you up.What’s your favorite restaurant?”

I was too overwhelmed to answer, but eventually I did.“Really?”I kept waiting for the punchline, but none ever came.“I would love to go out!”I’d lost track of how long it had been since the last time I went anywhere. My dinner with Laura felt like a lifetime ago, though it hadn’t been three whole weeks.

“Great.Figure out where you want to go, and I’ll make the call.Make sure you dress up,” he warned.“I want to show you off.”

Yes, something had changed, and it had to be big.He thought it was safe for us to be out. That could only mean good news.

“You’re sure it’s okay?”I asked because I wanted to be certain.

“I wouldn’t take a chance with you if I thought it would be risky.”And I believed him.

Certainty was a beautiful thing, almost as beautiful as the sight of him stepping out of the shower, water rolling down his wall of muscles as he reached for a towel.I had to leave him be, or else he would never make it out of the house.

But he did, and I spent the next hours deciding where to go for dinner after showering and getting dressed in my usual uniform of leggings and a T-shirt—the clothes I wore to bum around the house. It would be such a treat to dress up later.

The idea of dressing up gave me pause. It was Max’s turn on duty. The timing couldn’t be better since he was generally the easiest to talk my way around.A big, tough guy, he was a softie on the inside.Much like Vaughn, come to think of it.I slid on a pair of flats and grabbed my purse before almost skipping down the front steps. We were going out tonight. It was like the anticipation before a first date, which struck me as being pretty funny, considering we were married.

“Good morning,” I said to Max once he rolled down his window, setting aside the newspaper he’d been reading.Pretty old-school.Most people I knew read the news on their phone.

“Good morning.”There was a suspicious look in his eye as he regarded me.“How are you today?”

“Doing great.I was actually wondering if we could take a quick drive back to my apartment… just for a few minutes,” I swore, making an X over my chest with my finger.“Just a quick in and out.”

“Have you forgotten why you’ve been staying away from there?”

“Hey, check it out with Vaughn if you want to.Call him right now, seriously.See if he thinks it’s okay.”If we were going out to dinner, things had changed.Something had improved.A quick trip to my apartment in broad daylight couldn’t hurt, surely?

Max’s frown deepened once Vaughn answered. The conversation was brief.“Okay.Whatever you say,” he concluded, ending the call with a sigh like he still didn’t agree but had no choice.

“I have some jewelry back in my apartment,” I explained.“I would really like to wear it tonight when Vaughn takes me to dinner.”

Max didn’t bother trying to hide his impatience, rolling his eyes.“No offense, but can’t you buy new jewelry?”

“This is jewelry that used to belong to my mother. It’s really special to me,” I explained.“I would just feel a lot better if I had it with me instead of leaving it to sit in my apartment.”

“I’ll go get it for you,” he offered.

For some reason, he was still against the idea.

Maybe that made sense to him, but not to me.
