I rubbed my eyes, and stood up.

Victor turned toward me. His face was unusually irritated.

“What the fuck? You scared me to death!”

“Sorry.”

“Did you hear everything?”

“Yah.”

“Any advice?”

“Nah, I’d rather stay out of it.” I said, sheathing my knives.

“Good, because you really suck at this. What are you up to?”

“Going to find Hanoch.” I secured my belt.

“Can I go with you?”

“If you want.”

“I’d rather stay busy.”

“Sure.”

“Don’t you dare tell me that I’m avoiding her.”

“Wasn’t going to.”

“Because I’m not.”

“Sure.”

We headed back to the castle.

When I found my older brother, he was sitting at his desk, surrounded by maps, papers, and opened books.

He barely glanced at Victor and me when I closed the door behind us.

“Ah, it’s you. Should I ask where you were?”

“We went back to the temple to get the sacred water.”

Hanoch stood up and walked around his desk, he looked exhausted with dark purple lines under his eyes. His hair was tangled as if he had not slept at all.

“You went, after the clan decided that every capable male should be available in case of an attack.”

“Yes.”

“What do you expect for this? A basket of sweet pies?” He scrutinized my face.

“It’s stupid to have nothing to fight with.”

“We don’t even know if it will work,” he said.

“It works. We just fought a shit ton of them back at the sacred city,” Victor chimed in.
