“I beg your pardon?”

“The sapphire. It’s almost the same color as your eyes.”

Heat rises to my cheeks.

“I hadn’t noticed.”

I slide it onto my finger.

It fits perfectly.

“How did you know my size?”

“I asked your agent.”

“Of course you did. Max would sell his soul for ten percent.”

Callum studies my hand, looking oddly satisfied.

“It suits you.”

“Thank you. It’s… really beautiful.”

I stare at it, suddenly aware I’m wearing an engagement ring from a man I’ve known for barely twenty-six hours.

“And your grandmother?”

“You’ll meet her once we arrive in Scotland. I’ll explain my reasoning.”

“Let me guess—you won’t tell her we rushed into this because life is short and love can’t wait?”

“I could.”

I laugh.

“You? Saying that with a straight face?”

“I am perfectly capable of expressing romantic sentiments convincingly.”

“Oh really? Prove it.”

He pauses.

“Excuse me?”

“Right now. Say something romantic. Convince me you’re madly in love with me.”

For the first time, he looks… caught off guard.
